What if your greatest strength was also your biggest weakness? Too often in HR, we operate in "superhero mode"—taking on more than we can handle, constantly putting out fires, and saying “yes” to everyone while expecting no one to say “no” to us. While initially fulfilling with short-term recognition, this mindset ultimately stifles growth and impacts how other executives view us. The key to breaking out of this cycle? Activating and empowering your managers to operationalize HR strategies. When managers are properly equipped and leveraged, they become force multipliers, enhancing employee engagement, performance, and reducing regrettable turnover. In the latest episode of HR Superstars Podcast, I discuss this concept and offer actionable insights on how the top 5% of HR leaders make it happen. This podcast has a lot of helpful insight for anyone in HR. It’s emphasis is on developing the next generation of HR leaders. I listen regularly, and a common theme amongst guests is to embed yourself in the business. This allows you to earn the trust of your clients and best align your efforts with the goals of the organization. As it was once said, an HR leader should aim to be a business leader with a people lens. Has anyone listened before?

As I start to reflect on 2024, there's so much to be grateful for: ✅ Strengthening my community ✅ Building new connections ✅ Embracing collaboration One of my favorite collaborations this year was with MPL friend, JP Elliott, PhD, host of the Future of HR Podcast. In our last convo, JP shared what it takes to become a next-gen HR leader and it's all about the "what," the "who," and the "how.": 1. The What: - It’s about knowing what you stand for – your leadership philosophy, your values, and what you want to be known for at work. - It's about your leadership brand and making sure what you stand for really matters. 2. The Who: - Next-gen HR leaders see themselves as business people who happen to be in HR, not just HR leaders. - This mindset shapes your behavior. If you say you're a runner, you run. If you identify as a business person, you act like one at work. 3. The How: - How you show up is key. It’s about having business smarts, being strategic, thinking critically, influencing others, and being a bold communicator. - It’s about turning business strategy into HR strategy. This is what sets next-gen HR leaders apart. In short, mastering the "what," "who," and "how" is what drives a next-gen HR leader to succeed. If you haven’t already, give Future of HR Podcast a listen—you won’t be disappointed! 🎙️ 🔔 And you want more insights like this, sign up for our weekly newsletter in the comments #HR #CHRO #Peopleleader #chiefpeopleofficer #podcast #hrpodcast
