#NationalVolunteerWeek is here and this year's theme is "Something for Everybody" - a celebration of the diverse passions and talents that everyone can bring to doing good. Workplace volunteering not only helps fill workforce gaps in the nonprofit sector, but it can also improve employee engagement: 87% of employees who frequently participate in workplace volunteering feel more proud, loyal and satisfied with their employer (Deloitte, 2017). Here are some tips for organisations who are building an employee volunteering program: 🌈 Offer diverse and accessible volunteer options: From hands-on and in person options (e.g. beach clean-ups, youth mentoring) to virtual and short-term (e.g. Zoom tutoring, virtual strategy sessions with NFPs). 🏆 Lead by example: Create a culture of volunteering by ensuring leaders participate. Employees are more likely to volunteer if it is valued tobyleadership. 👏 Recognise and reward: Celebrate volunteer efforts - from light touch shout-outs to meaningfully consideration in performance reviews. ✅ Make it easy: Offer paid-time off for volunteering that can be taken in chunks, rather than only whole-days.
