💥 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 2024: 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐭 𝐯𝐬 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐭 – 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐖𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐡? 💥 In 2024, it seems like we’re still grappling with the age-old question: should we prioritise 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘵 or 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 when hiring? 🤔 You know the scenario: a candidate walks in with years of experience, technical expertise, and glowing references. But the first question on everyone’s mind is, “Will they fit in with the team?” Suddenly, it can seem like their ability to do the job is taking a back seat to whether they’ll get on with 𝘨𝘢𝘳𝘺 over the Friday pint. (𝘮𝘺 𝘢𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘺'𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦) 🍻 Now, I get it – no one’s denying that culture fit is important. The last thing any business needs is someone who disrupts team harmony or clashes with the office vibe. But equally, we’re not hiring someone just to join the work football team or laugh at the same jokes, are we? The real question is: 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡? Can we focus on finding people who 𝘥𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘣 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 and bring something positive to the team dynamic? I reckon the answer is 𝘺𝘦𝘴 – but only if we stop treating culture fit as the be-all and end-all, and start balancing it with actual competence. Because let’s face it – culture fit without skills is a risk, but skills without the right attitude can be just as tricky. Maybe instead of seeing these two as competing forces, we should focus on how they can work 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 to build a strong team.
