Electra wins NIS 1.4 billion Shafdan expansion tender Electra Infrastructure recently won the tender for expansion of the Shafdan Wastewater Treatment Plant, in the amount of almost NIS 1.4 billion. Shafdan, the largest plant of its kind in the Middle East, is operated by Mekorot, Israel’s National Water Company. Its treatment facilities remove pathogens and impurities from around 500,000 cubic meters of wastewater every day. This not only protects the environment from harmful pollutants, but also produces clean, reusable water of the highest quality. The recycled water is then supplied to farmers for use in crop irrigation. The Electra Group has long been a leader in sustainability, greentech, and renewable energy, recognizing the massive ecological, social, and business impact of a circular economy. The Group has previously undertaken several high-profile projects for Shafdan, including establishing complex biogeneration, biological treatment, and sludge drying facilities. This new tender is for the construction of Shafdan’s Module D on the site of the decommissioned Module B, and Electra Infrastructure will perform extensive earthworks, concrete work, and landscaping, among many more activities. ACCIONA, a leading global provider of sustainable infrastructure solutions, has been awarded two contracts totaling €6 million to enhance wastewater treatment capabilities in Portugal. The projects will focus on the tertiary treatment of water at the Vilamoura Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in the Algarve and the Carvalhal WWTP in Mafra, a town in the Lisbon District. 🌍 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝗧𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹’𝘀 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 💧 At 𝗕𝗧𝗗, we are proud to have contributed to addressing one of Lebanon’s critical wastewater challenges in 𝗔𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲. In collaboration with 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗙, our team conducted a comprehensive feasibility study for a wastewater treatment plant tailored to the village's unique needs. 🔍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Aarsal's wastewater is highly septic, with organic matter concentrations 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲, posing serious environmental and public health risks. Conventional treatment methods fell short, calling for innovative and adaptable solutions. 🔍 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵: Our study covered key aspects to identify the most effective solution: • 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Assessed the pros and cons of various treatment methods, leading to a matrix-based decision for the optimal approach. • 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻: Proposed a treatment plant based on 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, ideal for managing the highly septic wastewater. • 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀: Delivered a comprehensive breakdown of 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀, ensuring financial feasibility. • 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Presented findings to key stakeholders, including the 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗲𝗸𝗮𝗮, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿, and local representatives, fostering consensus on the best treatment type. 🚀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: ✔️ 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Designed to efficiently treat Aarsal’s unique wastewater composition. ✔️ 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: A clear roadmap for environmentally sound wastewater management in the village. ✔️ 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁: Engaged stakeholders in selecting a sustainable, impactful solution. As a newly formed division, Mymensingh is experiencing rapid urbanization, placing immense pressure on its groundwater resources. To address these challenges, under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Abdus Salam sir and with funding from NSTU’s Research Cell, we conducted our study focusing on groundwater vulnerability, potentiality (https://lnkd.in/gTtvs6vH) and its suitability for drinking and irrigation purposes. DRASTIC modeling is a widely used tool for assessing groundwater vulnerability, leveraging GIS and remote sensing to analyze hydrogeological features. Over time, various modifications have improved its accuracy. In our study, we also evaluated groundwater vulnerability of Mymensingh Sadar Upazila and compared the precision of different DRASTIC model variations. Science and expertise at the heart of City’s planned desalination plant The City’s plan to establish a state-of-the-art desalination plant in Paarden Eiland will be driven and informed by science, expertise and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The project is a fundamental part of roll-out of the City’s New Water Programme, a proactive initiative which aims to secure a more resilient future for water supply in Cape Town. This addition to the City’s water supply will continue to meet the excellent drinking water quality standards, in compliance with SANS 241:2015 standards. ‘The proposed desalination plant forms part of the City’s broader Water Strategy to produce an additional 300 million litres of water per day from various sources, including water reuse, groundwater extraction, and the clearing of invasive alien plants. Desalination is expected to produce 50 to 70 million litres of water per day, significantly bolstering Cape Town’s diversified water resources. This will enable us to build resilience by supplementing our water supply, to provide for generations to come,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.
