Foreign-owned firms employ 60% of high-earning Singapore residents – A shift in talent dynamics. Interesting to see the Ministry of Manpower’s latest data showing that foreign-owned firms—though they make up just 20% of companies here—employ 60% of Singapore's high earners. This is the first time MOM has released these numbers, and they really highlight how critical foreign investments are. It’s becoming harder to hire foreign talent these days with tighter regulations and increasing competition. Still, foreign firms are driving high-paying job creation for both international talent and locals, which is especially important in specialized sectors like maritime and commodities. These industries rely heavily on global expertise, but also create valuable opportunities for Singaporeans. As the recruitment landscape changes, finding the right balance between attracting foreign talent and growing our local workforce will be key.

In Singapore, low salaries are no longer the primary reason employees are leaving their companies. Hays reported that this year, Singaporeans are quitting their jobs due to a lack of career progression and the desire to seek new challenges. In 2023, low salaries were the main reason Singaporeans left their jobs. Meanwhile, employees who are committed to their organisation cited fitting in well with managers or colleagues as the top reason for staying at their jobs at 40.1%, followed by work location or flexible work options (36.2%), work-life balance (35.4%), salary package (31.5%), and waiting for bonus, promotion, or internal transfer (16.9%).
