I just saw this clip of Kerry Washington talking about equality and equity that I think is worth sharing. Equality and equity have been topics at the forefront of discussions in leadership, politics, and social justice over the past decade as it has in other times in history. What I truly value from her words here is that she calls attention to the fine line between (dangerously) oversimplifying equality and truly understanding what equity vs. equality means—and what it requires in order to move the needle forward—in the context of these areas (leadership, politics, social justice, etc.). As leaders in whatever industry you work in, you’ll no doubt be a part of or leading conversations about this topic.
