On International #HumanRightsDefendersDay, we want to recognize our local human rights defenders (HRDs) in Kharkiv and their incredible work since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Our senior advisor Brian Dooley regularly travels to these areas under fire to work with civilians like Sasha, Olga, and Vasyl providing vital aid to those affected by war. We are proud to work alongside these HRDs.

In the occupied territories, extremely arbitrary criteria can lead a Ukrainian to be singled out for detainment, ill-treatment and worse. To name a few: - Unkempt appearance - Ukrainian language speakers - Khaki-coloured elements of plain clothing - Bruises, abrasions or tattoos with any patriotic or “suspicious” symbols - Contacts of their relatives, neighbors and other acquaintances serving in the Ukrainian army - Place of residence near Russian army positions Under these criteria and more, any person living in the occupied territories can be detained, forcibly disappeared, or even tortured for any reason or supposed suspicion that the oppressor state can conjure up. 🎙 Listen to Orysia Lutsevych addressing the issue of corruption in Ukraine, during our recent webinar 'How to Bolster Ukraine's Wartime Resilience' 'There's a pressure from Ukrainian civil society, media to make sure that every dollar, every euro that the country has in its possession goes to the war effort, to support the veterans. This is the question of justice, and I'm sure they will keep the pressure on the government and together with the European Union, with the United States there will be clean up of a lot of inefficiencies that still are within the system' Full recording of this webinar is here: https://lnkd.in/eFiQWBKx

In a significant escalation of regional tensions, Pakistan has launched airstrikes on suspected Taliban hideouts located within Afghanistan's territory. The airstrikes, intended to target militant elements, have unfortunately resulted in civilian casualties, adding fuel to the already volatile situation between the two neighboring nations. #worldpolitics #politics #indianpolitics #news #uspolitics #Mumbai_Uncensored #Uncensored_Networks #usa #geopolitics #politicsnation #politicstoday #india #politicsnews #internationalrelations #ukpolitics #america #americanpolitics #globalpolitics #pakistan #politicsmemes #trump #instapolitics #currentaffairs #world #foreignpolicy #narendramodi #foreignaffairs #politic #russia

The issue of civilian casualties is a complex one, and it is important to recognize that both colonial armies and resistance movements have been responsible for such tragedies. However, the laws of war, as codified in international humanitarian law, place clear restrictions on the targeting of civilians and the use of disproportionate force. Colonial armies that engage in indiscriminate violence against civilians are in clear violation of these laws and cannot claim the moral high ground.

United Nations United Nations Human Rights Office of the President, Youth General Assembly International Criminal Court Amnesty International Amnesty International Sverige European Commission European Parliament U.N. must remain stronger against Israeli occupation forces. 40 countries condemned Israel's stupidity when Netanyahu ordered to attack on UN forces, tried to scare them away, and then continued to kill civilians with their systematic excuse "We are hunting Hezbollah". Israel has already committed war crimes against civilians in Gaza for a long time, which is now continuing towards Lebanon. Now the UN must strengthen its forces even more and stand against the Israeli war machine. It is the only possibility to stop civilians. In addition, Israeli military who have deliberately killed civilians must be caught and brought to justice. Some such trials may be a cold shower for many hotheads in the Israeli army who may then begin to rethink the consequences of their criminal actions. For example, arrest those who trespass on UNIFIL's area of responsibility https://lnkd.in/dRWw3824
