Just attended an insightful session hosted by Reza Rad of RADACAD, who gave a whistle-stop tour and demo of Microsoft Fabric. He highlighted features such as the Lakehouse, OneLake, Direct Lake, and shortcuts. It’s amazing how quickly and easily you can move from new data to reporting with minimal coding. Microsoft is developing a very intuitive and user-friendly platform here. While it’s clear that Fabric has room for further evolution and growth, I’m excited to see its future development. Microsoft Fabric seems like a great platform for small companies early in their data journey, offering a quickly deployable and easily manageable solution. However, it currently has limitations in functionality, so it may not be ideal for larger companies or those further along in their data journey. You might not get the same flexibility as with existing methods, so sticking with your current setup could be best. There’s definitely an opportunity to explore a hybrid approach—integrate Fabric’s features like shortcuts and Direct Lake to enhance your existing system. If cost is a concern, it might be better to choose one approach and stick with it. But hey, that’s just my opinion. Let’s see how this changes over the next few years. Thanks to The Data School UK / The Information Lab for providing the venue! #Fabric #Microsoft #NewTools #Lakehouse
