Unlocking a Brighter Future: Success Stories from the Florida Solar Energy Center Orange County Government Florida: People, Places & Prosperity Orange County is the fifth most populated county in Florida and the largest in Central Florida. Originally known as Mosquito County, it was renamed for the plentiful orange groves that once thrived in the area. Today, Orange County is the number one worldwide destination for tourism and travel. With this growth, comes unique transportation and environmental challenges that Orange County government is addressing through its Sustainable Operations and Resilience Action Plan. One of the primary objectives set out in the plan is to cut petroleum-based fuel consumption in their vehicle fleet by 50% by 2030. This includes converting 100% of its light-duty fleet vehicles to electric or alternative fuels by the same year. Great news for the environment and public health! 🌍 The Ports of #Savannah and #Brunswick are taking significant steps towards sustainability. Thanks to a federal grant from the Inflation Reduction Act, the ports are implementing new electric charging systems for ships. ⚓️ This is a significant win for our coastal communities: 🌊 ● Ships can plug into grid power and turn off their diesel engines while at port. 🔌 ● This will dramatically reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality, benefiting the health of surrounding communities. 🌱 At GDG Brunswick, we applaud this initiative, which aligns with our commitment to creating a more sustainable future. 🌟 Let's continue to work together to protect our precious coastal environment and create a healthier future for all. 🤝 #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #PortsofGA #GDG #Brunswick

➡ How cities can accelerate the heat transition away from fossil fuels ? Cities play a key role in the transition away from fossil fuels for heating and are responsible for a significant part of #EUGreenDeal implementation. Through proactive planning and the adoption of collective solutions such as decarbonised district heating, cities can significantly cut down heating emissions. Currently, 72% of building heating in Europe 🇪🇺 comes from fossil fuels, underlining the urgent need to phase them out for a resilient, climate-neutral, and just future laid out by the Green Deal. Read out more 👇
Allison Le Corre, communication and campaign manager at Covenant of Mayors - Europe, describes how big the impact can be if we empower cities to change their heat and expand collective solutions. #sustainablecities #sustainability #energyefficiency

Tapping into one of the greenest energy projects on earth! The article “Tapping into one of the greenest energy projects on earth, "George Brown College’s Limberlost Place is to become a great example of one of the greenest energy systems in the world. Enwave Energy Corporation’s deep lake water cooling system, a unique Toronto innovation, collects the chilled water of Lake Ontario to cool numerous city buildings. This is important to me because it's an eco-friendly approach which will help with climate change, mainly due to the net-zero building, cutting fossil fuels out of the picture and just using Lake Ontario’s water to cool buildings for this project. Cost benefits for the community, by lowering operational costs which would reduce overall energy costs for the community but mainly for GBC which could very well reduce GBC tuition fees. Which would be a great help for me, and other students at GBC. Mass-timber will be the first net-zero building to benefit from this technology. Making my future better and everyone else's at GBC. In Southern California’s Kern County, an old oil reservoir is being transformed into an energy storage site. This project, led by Premier Resource Management, LLC, is helping California move toward a cleaner energy future. Instead of leaving these oil fields behind, they’re being repurposed to generate renewable energy and store it for when it’s needed most. This isn’t just good for the environment—it also creates new jobs and financial benefits for local communities. Imagine what this could mean for cities like Los Angeles, where abandoned oil fields and industrial sites could be transformed to support clean energy projects. Unlike traditional industrial uses, battery storage sites can be designed to have minimal environmental impact while providing clean, renewable energy to the grid. This transformation would not only reduce local pollution and improve air quality but could also offer opportunities to create green spaces, parks, or community gardens around these sites. By turning what was once a source of pollution into a hub for clean energy and community revitalization, we can make Los Angeles a more sustainable place to live for all residents. The shift to renewable energy is a process, and projects like this demonstrate how we can build a sustainable future through collaboration between private and public enterprises. Moving forward requires working together, and initiatives like this have the potential to create a domino effect as their positive impacts become evident. HISTORIC WIN FOR CLEAN ENERGY: Vista Sands was just approved by the Public Service Commission! The solar farm will be the most powerful solar project in the state, generating enough energy to to power about 200,000 Wisconsin homes! ⚡️ "Today the PSC approved the biggest step toward curbing Wisconsin’s carbon emissions in the state’s history. Deployment of clean energy on this scale will do more to advance state energy policy than has any construction project in Wisconsin to date," — Clean Wisconsin General Counsel Katie Nekola Vista Sands will displace millions of tons of carbon dioxide and other pollutants over its lifespan, helping to make Wisconsin's air cleaner for everyone to breathe. ☀️ The project will also take dozens of high-capacity wells out of operation and drastically cut pesticide & fertilizer use across the area, helping replenish aquifer levels and reduce water contamination in the Central Sands region! 💧 AND it will provide $6.5 million/ year to local towns and counties to invest in critical local needs like repairing roads, purchasing emergency equipment, improving parks and expanding services. 💰 #CleanWisconsin #SolarEnergy #CleanAir #VistaSands #cleanenergy #wisconsinsolar #cleanair #solarpower #solarfarm #actonclimate #climateaction
