👩🎓 Finnish Universities were visible in EU Research and Innovation Week by organising the event focusing on the role of universities and universities of applied sciences in the EU's competitiveness and resilience objectives and challenges. 🔊 The importance of transparency, scientific quality and freedom in achieving EU objectives was emphasised and universities called for an increased funding for research. 🖥 Thematical discussions highlighted the importance of digital transformation and artificial intelligence and called on Europe to catch up with global leaders in these areas. 🌱 Furthermore, there was consensus on the need to act decisively and with scientific knowledge against climate change and biodiversity loss. 🌐 Especially Nordic universities contribution to defence and security in the new geopolitical context, including NATO membership and interest in the Arctic, was highlighted. 🖌 Creative arts and social sciences in promoting diversity of thought was also discussed.
