Upcoming IAU & APAIE | Asia-Pacific Association for International Education Webinar on "Internationalization of Higher Education in Asia & the Pacific: Current Trends and Future Scenarios" 📅 Join us on 27 June 2024! About the webinar: Asia & the Pacific is the region of the world with the biggest #HigherEducation sector, more than one third of existing HEIs in the world are located in #Asia & the Pacific. However, in terms of #internationalization the voice of Asia & Pacific is not yet taking the predominance it should at global level, as demonstrated also by the low participation of HEIs from the region in the 6th IAU Global Survey on internationalization. It is therefore of utmost interest to know how internationalization is understood and evolving in Asia & the Pacific. Asia & the Pacific is a huge and incredibly diverse region, encompassing very different cultures and education systems. In order to reflect these different perspectives, this webinar will investigate internationalization in Asia & the Pacific starting from some relevant trends for the region emerging from the results of the 6th IAU Global Survey on internationalization and discussing them with experts from major countries in the region. Ideas know no borders and universities continue to transcend short-term geopolitics to stay connected globally - uniting to take on the world's shared challenges. It is great to see that the latest edition of the International Association of Universities report, "Internationalization of Higher Education: Current Trends and Future Scenarios", has shown that universities' commitment to internationalisation is increasing. The graph below, from the report, shows the wide range of clear institutional benefits to internationalisation reported by the survey respondents, with "enhanced international cooperation and capacity building" at the top of the list, followed by increased "intercultural knowledge, skills and competencies" for both staff and students. I was also particularly pleased to see that international benchmarking and the sharing of good practice across borders is on the list too. Internationalization is no longer just a goal for educational institutions—it’s a necessity. It’s not just about partnerships or attracting foreign students. True internationalization means creating education systems that equip learners with global competencies at the core of their skillsets. This goes beyond surface-level efforts and requires a more integrated, thoughtful approach.
