Following the release of the G7 Heads of State Communique, Director of Campaign for Nature Brian O'Donnell has released this statement congratulating leaders on their re-commitment to deliver $20bn per year to developing countries to protect the world's remaining biodiversity. “We commend the G7 leaders for reaffirming their commitment to deliver $20bn per year to developing countries to protect the world's remaining biodiversity. Elevating this vitally important issue to a leader-level commitment provides hope that these countries will keep their promise by the 2025 deadline. This urgent investment is a first step in recognizing and promoting the stewardship of Global South nations of the natural systems and ecosystem services that we all, as a global community, depend on.” https://lnkd.in/ewx8EBMf #biodiversity #environment #naturefinance #30x30

EPO calls MEPs to support the relaunch of the EP Intergroup on Climate Change, Biodiversity & Sustainable Development (CCBSD) # EPIntergroupCCBSD On November 19th, 2024, European Bureau for Conservation and Development organized a high-level conference to present the @EPintergroupCCBSD 2024–2029 policy priorities and work program. Organised at the European Committee of the Regions (CoR), this pivotal event brought together many Members of the European Parliament, representatives from EU institutions and UN agencies, stakeholders from the private sector including EPO, researchers, and environmental organizations. As the Intergroup looks to build on its impactful legacy after 30 years of work in the EP, this event marked an important step in reaffirming its role as a platform for cross-sectoral collaboration and science-based policymaking in support of EU and global sustainability goals. It’s now or never to take action for the Europe we want, so we kindly ask all MEPs to support the renewal of the Intergroup on Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Development. #EUelections2024 #EPIntergroupCCBSD # PetSector

Globally and regionally, our future depends on preventing the collapse of the natural systems that provide our food, clean water, clean air, and a stable climate. The Caribbean Biodiversity Fund (CBF) is a regional umbrella environmental fund that champions the cause of conservation and sustainable development across the Caribbean, securing reliable, long-term funding. We’re dedicated to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) 30x30 initiative: aiming to support the effective and equitable management of 30 percent of the world's oceans by 2030. Taking in this data point: "There is no country that currently invests more in nature than it spends on destroying it." Turning this info around would require providing incentives to invest in nature. What can we do to spur such investment?
There is no country that currently invests more in nature than it spends on destroying it. Changing that calculus and promoting nature-positive incentives can go a long way to closing the #biodiversity financing gap and is a key part of achieving international environmental goals. The Global Environment Facility will hold a full-day conference on October 27, in the Green Zone of UN Biodiversity's COP16 Colombia, on the potential of positive incentives, reforms of harmful subsidies, and policy alignment to achieve Target 18 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#KMGBF). The event is co-hosted with the Government of Colombia, UN Biodiversity's Secretariat, Conservation International, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The ICCF Group, The Nature Conservancy, The World Bank, and World Economic Forum. 🔗 Join us in Cali and online: https://lnkd.in/eSsgyp7V #COP16Colombia | #GEFatCOP16Colombia

As the world navigates a critical crossroads, our collective decisions today will define the planet’s future. Despite progress in recognizing the planet’s intrinsic value, nature's voice often remains muted in global policy. 🌎 The latest blog post by Rosalind Warner, RCEN SDG Caucus Chair and Biodiversity Caucus Steering Committee Member, explores strategies to amplify this voice, including: 1️⃣ Mainstreaming biodiversity: Integrating nature into every decision. 2️⃣ Strengthening legal frameworks: Enforcing existing laws and exploring concepts like ecocide. 3️⃣ Addressing root causes: Tackling biodiversity loss at its source. 📝 Read the full blog on the RCEN website: https://lnkd.in/g3y_DMCm
