📢 #ATTRACTproject 📢 How do EU innovation programs foster serendipity in research and business? 🧐 #CASEIA investigates the socioeconomic impacts of these projects by focusing on how these institutions and businesses achieve innovation. The research team developed an analytical framework to evaluate the impacts across six key dimensions and conducted three case studies: one from a research institution, one from a business, and a control case outside ATTRACT 🚀. The study identified different types of serendipity and explored how research institutions primarily produce incremental innovations, while businesses, being more comfortable with risk, tend to achieve commercial breakthroughs. ✅ Discover more about it ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eJtK6my2 Dr. Sonia Utermann GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft HSRC (Human Sciences Research Council) Steinbeis GmbH & Co. TL;DR: Stoneshield Capital, to Establish Science Hub in Barcelona, Investing over €200 million ↓↓↓ Stoneshield Capital is investing over €200 million to create Catalonia's first science and innovation hub, the Barcelona Science Innovation District (BaSID). The project involves developing five properties across 75,000 square meters, designed to become a leading Life Science campus. BaSID aims to address the shortage of scientific spaces in Spain and will be a collaboration center for scientists, universities, entrepreneurs, and companies, fostering partnerships and innovation. BaSID is strategically positioned to work closely with Barcelona's Scientific Park, local biotech, pharmaceutical companies, and academic institutions to drive local talent and research collaboration. Bayer, as a major tenant and with its Spanish headquarters within BaSID, reinforces the district's footprint in sustainability, enhancing its profile with initiatives like emission neutrality. DeepLabs has previously implemented this model with success at MaSID in Madrid, demonstrating a commitment to advancing Spain's Life Science and innovation industries. → https://buff.ly/3SEudWV

We are thrilled to be part of the "Enhancing SME Access to European Research and Technology Infrastructures: A Pathway to Innovation & Growth" workshop, which is taking place today in Brussels. The event gathers around the same table representatives from RIs, SMEs, Member States, national funders, and the European Commission to foster collaborations in two strategic domains: advanced materials and biotechnology. At Euro-BioImaging, we believe that European Research Infrastructures (RIs) offer significant yet underused opportunities to support research and innovation for small and medium enterprises. We are contributing with our partners ALBA Synchrotron, ELIXIR, ESRF - The European Synchrotron INESC Brussels HUB to make it easier for SMEs to leverage these advantages. 🔍 We are not just offering services but creating connections within an entire ecosystem to power European innovation and competitiveness in biotechnology and advanced materials. Our goal is to continually improve and facilitate access for SMEs, ensuring they can benefit from available cutting-edge technology and advanced services. Did you know that Euro-BioImaging is a leading imaging initiative in Europe, with a portfolio of over 120 technologies immediately accessible to SMEs? https://lnkd.in/dmCcZpsm 🚀 Our aim is impact. Euro-BioImaging is part of a joint effort by European Research Infrastructures to put their scientific capacity directly at the service of commercial users, accelerating innovation and maintaining Europe's position as a technological global leader. We are particularly eager to engage with the European biotech sector, where our imaging expertise and tech portfolio are unmatched assets. 🌐 We want to break the silos and remove the barriers to research and innovation. During this workshop, participants work jointly towards addressing pressing SMEs needs. The workshop aims to simplify access to RIs' assets, remove administrative hurdles, and create cross-program opportunities. 📈 Euro-BioImaging will implement an SME access pilot as part of our EVOLVE project, taking direct inspiration from the experience of our UK and Belgian Nodes. More about EVOLVE → https://lnkd.in/dztDRR5n Let's continue to make a difference and drive innovation together! 💪

The Graphene Europe in the Lead (GrapheneEU) Coordination and Support Action (CSA) ensures the overall coherence of the Graphene Flagship. Building on ten years of experience providing central support and coordination to the Graphene Flagship, the GrapheneEU project partners will help to unite the new Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Actions (RIAs) and Innovation Action (IA) projects and provide services to help increase the initiative’s visibility, effectiveness and voice. The CSA’s primary function is to encourage collaborations and knowledge transfer between the RIA/IA projects and with the broader 2D materials (2DM) community. GrapheneEU ensures a strong and coherent initiative by providing key support functions in coordination and governance, industrialisation, dissemination and alignment, enabling the participating projects to identify and utilise synergies in their work, share best practices and promote interactions with relevant national and regional initiatives. GrapheneEU will help secure a sustained European leadership in 2DM by capitalising on the investments in the Graphene Flagship from the FP7 and Horizon 2020 European funding programmes and fostering and facilitating the work to be continued during Horizon Europe. 🌍 Another week, another opportunity to learn, grow, and share insights! This week, I had the privilege to speak at the latest ESIB (European Summit of Industrial Biotechnology) event in the beautiful city of Graz, Austria. https://www.esib.at/ I shared our perspective on the current state of AI and Biotechnology in the Danube-Alpine-Adriatic region. Together, we explored: ➡️ What the future could hold. ➡️ Where we stand today. ➡️ And most importantly, how we can actively shape that future with sustainable and ethical solutions that merge AI and BioTech to serve all living beings. 🌱🤖 A heartfelt thank you to acib GmbH for hosting such a well-organized event and to Matthias Slatner for the kind invitation. The discussions were inspiring, the questions thought-provoking, and the exchange of ideas truly invigorating. It’s moments like these that remind me of the transformative power of collaboration and innovation. Let’s strive to ensure these technologies are a force for good—for our planet and for every living being. #ESIB #acib #AI #Biotechnology #Sustainability #Innovation
