On April 8, 2022, the Democratic Republic of Congo officially acceded to the East African Community (EAC) Treaty, marking a significant step towards fostering economic collaboration and development in the region. The subsequent full membership on July 11, 2022, has paved the way for transformative initiatives and partnerships. This week (26th Feb to 1st March 2024), I have been privileged to be one of the participants in a critical capacity-building program titled "Mainstreaming the Democratic Republic of Congo into the EAC; Training on EAC Integration & OSBP" at Mahagi, DRC. The program which has brought together officials from both Uganda and the DRC was organized by the EAC Secretariat under the auspices of TradeMark Africa. The training's focal points include coordinated border management, One Stop Border Post (OSBP) framework, and the intricacies of the Single Customs Territory. Witnessing the enthusiasm with which the DRC is embracing this change has been truly inspiring. The commitment to learning and adapting to these new processes signifies a positive trajectory towards seamless integration. The collaboration and knowledge exchange between the partnering nations exemplify the spirit of unity and shared progress within the EAC. As we work towards the full realization of integration, we anticipate witnessing a remarkable transformation in the economic landscape of the DRC. This journey signifies not just the growth of a nation but the collective growth of the entire East African Community. Let us celebrate the positive strides made by the DRC and look forward to a future of increased collaboration, shared prosperity, and strengthened regional ties within the East African Community. Together, we are building a more integrated and resilient Africa. #EACIntegration #RegionalCollaboration #EastAfricanCommunity
