I am not a marine scientist, but I love the sea, engaging with it above and below the surface and from its sandy shores. Near daily engagement has made me acutely aware of the sea's extraordinary power and her fragility; with increased pollution and water temps rising, marine life and coastlines are increasingly threatened. 97% of Earth's water found in oceans, thus protecting our marine environment is critical and requires innovation, and collaboration to create solutions that are durable, cost effective, time efficient and sustainable. In reading an AgTech email that hit my inbox, it was great to learn about the marine projects undertaken and in collaboration with CyBe Construction, a specialist in 3D Concrete Printing. 3D concrete printing is employed to design and create complex marine structures, such as coral reefs, sea walls and barnacles to support marine environments. The structures provide sanctuary for marine life, help coral reefs recover, protect coastlines and as in the Miami seawall colab with Kind Designs, also monitors water quality. In colab with Seaboost in France, an artificial reef structure was printed, whilst here in New Zealand, the 'Barnacle' collaboration with CyBe, QOROX® and Eke Panuku Development Auckland aims to improve the ocean’s well-being by creating a rockpool effect, mimicking coral reefs in their function of providing microhabitats sea life. There is also a sustainable bent, including using recycled materials in the concrete to lower the carbon footprint by 32%. I look forward to understanding this in greater detail. Love to hear feedback from any of the projects and / or commentary on the projects mentioned or others. https://lnkd.in/gcptvbaV #AgTech #AgScience #MarineScience #3DTechnology #Circularity #sustainability #science

#3DPC2024 #Finalist "RADICANT" CITA | Centre for Information Technology and Architecture / Royal Danish Academy Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen DENMARK Radicant is made as a bespoke paneling system 3D printed from different compositions of biopolymer. The tiles are materially graded as they ascend the wall, creating a branched interweave mounting six meters up the wall. Printed from biopolymer composite reinforced with waste stream cellulose, the wall asks what a bio based architecture can be. The waste stream materials blend wood flower, bark, paper flock, eel grass and recycled cotton to create a breadth of recipes deployed across the installation. Radicant is part of a wider portfolio in CITA examining how a bio-based material paradigm challenges the way architecture is thought, designed and built. Bio-based materials is one of the perspectives leading us from our current linear “take-make-dispose” models of production into renewable, regenerative and restorative methods. 🔜 Rapid.Tech 3D (14-16 May 24), Messe Erfurt, Germany 💡 Visit the 3DPC Finalists #exhibition 🏆 Keep fingers crossed, till 3DPC #awardceremony 15 May 2024, 3:30pm, booth 2.509! www.3dpc.io #wettbewerbe2024 #award #innovation #3d #advancedtechnologies #challenge2024 #am #mindset #CollaborativeMindset #disruptive #3ddruck #industry #pushingboundaries #3dprinting #competition #collaborative #additivemanufacturing

Just read an inspiring piece on Coastruction 's innovative work in 3D printing artificial reefs—a great example of tech merging with nature to tackle one of our most pressing challenges: #oceanconservation. The stats are stark: 25% of the ocean’s fish rely on coral reefs for survival, yet these ecosystems are in steep decline due to pollution, overfishing, and climate change. Coastruction’s solution? Purpose-built #3Dprintedreefs that mimic natural formations, providing vital habitats while using #sustainable, local materials. No toxic old tires or rusty metal rebar here—just smart design and a commitment to biodiversity. The vision from Coastruction’s founder, Nadia Fani, is bold. She highlights how their powder bed tech allows for tailored reefs to thrive in different marine environments, from oceans to rivers. I’m particularly impressed by their collaborative work with local communities to ensure these projects not only make an impact but also foster stewardship at a #grassroots level. For people like me who are passionate about the ocean, it’s a reminder of the power of purpose-driven innovation. What a great use of #additivemanufacturing technology. https://lnkd.in/ggzBngdd!

In my past life, as I navigated the complexities of starting, building, acquiring, and running an 8-figure organization in the remodeling and restoration industry, I often came across videos of concrete-printed homes 🏠. The emergence of wood technology 🌳 in the construction of these homes has completely shifted my perspective. The innovation in wood tech has led to a remarkable transformation in how quickly and efficiently these homes are built, with a significantly reduced liability thanks to the precision of machine-led processes 🤖. Finally, there is a solution in the residential print development industry that is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally efficient. I recently came across an inspiring article about BioHome3D, a project by the University of Maine, which utilizes local wood fiber and cellulose for insulation, crafting each house from approximately 10 tons of wood residuals ♻️. This initiative not only promotes sustainability by employing 100% recycled materials but also plays a crucial role in reducing the CO2 emissions typically associated with traditional construction materials. With just the waste from Maine's sawmills, up to 100,000 housing units could be produced annually, showcasing a groundbreaking approach to addressing the housing shortage crisis while embracing sustainability 🌍. Kudos to the visionaries behind this project! As we look towards the future, it's exhilarating to imagine the landscape of residential development evolving into something more sustainable, efficient, and visually appealing. Would you consider making a sustainable choice with a 3D-printed house made from residual wood waste? #SustainableLiving #Innovation #3DPrinting #WoodTechnology #GreenConstruction #EcoFriendly #Sustainability #FutureHomes #ModernArchitecture #BuildingTheFuture #EcoHomes #RecycledMaterials #ConstructionTech #EcoInnovation #SustainableDevelopment #HousingCrisisSolutions #EnvironmentalConservation #RenewableResources #CleanTech #GreenTech #EcoDesign #SustainableArchitecture #Climate

In this years' FILTECH Innovation Guide Heidland GmbH & Co. KG presents: Composite Filter 4.0 Increasing challenges to the #filtering process have led us to think about a groundbreaking innovation in the design of #compositefilters made of a fine fabric (filter) and a coarse fabric (supporting fabric). While in the past ordinary double-layer #filtermedia were #woven and later point-glued, we make use of a relatively new technology from the #yarnindustry. The carrier fabric is partly made of so-called core-jacket yarns. The fine #mesh is connected to the coarse mesh under pressure and temperature...
