📜 'Presenting posters at a session of this type is more than just a dress rehearsal, it provides very good access to colleagues from the local community, which is sometimes impossible at the conference itself. Conferences like NeurIPS are huge pots with thousands of people. Smaller-scale events have great value in themselves,’ says Jan Dubiński, PhD student at Politechnika Warszawska and IDEAS NCBR. 📌 Yesterday, Pre-NeurIPS took place at Wydział Elektroniki i Technik Informacyjnych Politechniki Warszawskiej, with 25 posters from upcoming NeurIPS 2024, #ECCV2024, #ECAI2024, #CoRL2024 and #WACV2025 conferences presented by researchers of PW and IDEAS NCBR. The event was part of Pre-NeurIPS series organized in ELLIS - European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems Units across the continent. 🤝 ‘It will probably be my first time at such a large conference as NeurIPS. So far, I have visited smaller conferences where people know each other better, but are also in the same area of interest. At large conferences, there is a chance to meet people dealing with other areas of knowledge, which gives an opportunity for more interdisciplinary projects,' says Andrzej Mizera, post-doc at IDEAS NCBR. 👁️ 'A good poster encourages a guest to interact with the author. The poster is supposed to interest a person from 2-3 meters. Poster can help our paper get attention. Personal interactions at conferences offer a great advantage over journal publications,’ adds Jan Dubiński. % ‘This year, NeurIPS has an acceptance rate just over 23%. There were 15,000 submissions. There was even a randomized lottery registration system for participants without papers due to the high interest.’ 🏅 During the event, votes were cast for the best posters (and presentations). Wojciech Łapacz was the winner, while Jan Dubiński and Karol Rzepka took second place ex aequo. Congratulations and good luck! (Wojciech was recently in the #IDEAHACK winning team as well). 💠‘We are delighted that the Pre-NeurIPS session is organized not only in Warsaw, but also takes place this week in 17 units of the ELLIS network, including Zurich, Amsterdam and Oxford. Pre-NeurIPS helps researchers practice their ability to present results and share knowledge,' says Agata Bader, coordinator for academic and international cooperation at IDEAS NCBR. Great meeting, thanks for having us there. Actually I learned some useful stuff about continual learning and adaptive vision with RL.
Glad to be a part of the #ELLIS family!🤝 Many thanks to our amazing team Karolina Madyjewska, Artur Kołodziejczyk-Skowron, PhD, Przemysław Batorski for making it happen🔥 #Science_is_global
