Impressive work by Pano AI and the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. This article illustrates the potential of AI-driven technologies in enhancing our firefighting efforts and safeguarding communities. The success of the early detection system outside Seattle demonstrates the crucial role of real-time data in wildfire management. It's exciting to see such innovative solutions being implemented, and I hope this encourages further investment in climate adaptation technologies. A great read and a big shoutout to everyone involved! #WildfirePrevention #ClimateAdaptation
Pano AI was recently spotlighted in a feature by Government Technology about our ongoing partnership with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources. The piece highlights an early detection by Pano’s systems on rural land outside the Seattle Metropolitan area last summer that facilitated fire agencies’ rapid and successful containment efforts. The incident illustrates how AI-driven climate adaptation technology empowers first responders with real-time, actionable intelligence, enhancing their ability to protect communities from the ever-increasing threat of wildfires. We are grateful for the ongoing partnership with Washington DNR and urge more state government leaders to prioritize and allocate greater resources for wildfire mitigation technologies. Managing the threat of #wildfires continues to be a top priority for many of the organizations that Planet works with. As a Californian who is very familiar with "wildfire season", I’m grateful that this work is happening. Satellite imagery can support wildfire risk reduction strategies by allowing organizations to scale up monitoring efforts, accelerate decision-making, and improve visibility into remote regions before wildfire even occurs. There are 2 on-demand webinars that share how CalFIRE, the Czech Republic Forest Management Institute, and the Netherlands Institute for Public Safety are using Planet data to support their wildfire mitigation efforts.

Exciting news from the Okanagan! 🌲🔥🚨 Predator Ridge is using cutting-edge sensor technology from Vancouver-based SenseNet. This innovative system detects early signs of fire, providing a crucial advantage in the fight against increasingly fierce and frequent wildfires. Why is this so important? ✔️Today's wildfires are more intense and occur more often than ever before ✔️"Zombie fires" can stay dormant all winter, posing hidden threats ✔️Wildfires endanger communities, nature, and contribute significantly to pollution Did you know? In 2023, Canadian wildfires emitted nearly three times the carbon of the entire Canadian economy! 😮 This collaboration between Predator Ridge and SenseNet represents a new era of innovation to combat a new era of wildfires. By detecting fires early, we can protect our communities, preserve our natural landscapes, and reduce harmful emissions. Let's celebrate this step towards a safer, more sustainable future! 🎉 https://lnkd.in/g5mikbFq #WildfirePrevention #InnovativeTechnology #Sustainability #ClimateSolutions #CanadianInnovation

The 2020 California fire season tallied over 8,000 wildfires, scorching 4.1 million acres, destroying over 10,000 structures, and resulting in 31 fatalities. The California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) tasked the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) with streamlining the safe removal of wildfire debris. Tidal Basin and Michael Baker International joined together to lead the cleanup effort for the Inland Branch Emergency Cleanup Response, an area that encompassed 40 separate wildfire incidents. The large-scale, multi-faceted recovery process included debris removal and monitoring as well as GIS mapping services. The statistics are staggering and the message clear: In 2023, the United States witnessed over 17,292 wildfires that burned across more than 498,820 acres. These numbers are not just abstract figures; they represent the increasing threat wildfires pose to our communities, ecosystems, and way of life 🔥🔥 In response to this urgent need, we are proud to announce our commitment to combating this crisis head-on. We are applying for the XPRIZE Wildfire competition, aiming to leverage cutting-edge technology to revolutionize how we predict, prevent, and manage wildfires. We believe that through innovation, collaboration, and determination, we can face this challenge and make a lasting difference. #WildfirePrevention #Innovation #XPRIZEWildfire #Sustainability #TechForGood #CommunitySafety

With some of the more recent wildfires, communities (CWPPs) and power companies (WMPs) may have forgotten one of the key lessons from the Lahaina (Maui) fire. Invasive plant species are changing the wildfire paradigm everywhere. Wildfire risk is increasing everywhere, especially in the Eastern US and South. Even the most temperate landscapes can and will burn. This article is worth your time. We work with Bintel Inc and a team with over 20 years of experience writing Community Wildfire Protection Plans in California, Colorado and other states. We also provide maps to multiple engineering firms who work with POU and IOU customers on their wildfire mitigation plans. #VegetationMangement #wildfire

The 2024 #wildfireseason has been one of the most intense in decades across the Americas. Drought, heat, and extreme fire activity have pushed #wildlandfirefighters to their limits as they work to save lives, homes, and ecosystems. When visibility drops due to thick smoke, every second counts. HyperSight's vehicle-mounted #thermalimaging cameras empower firefighters to see through smoke, locate hotspots, and navigate safely – protecting crews, saving equipment, and increasing response effectiveness. ➡️ As wildfire seasons grow more extreme, advanced tools like HyperSight are mission-critical for frontline heroes.
