A recent Recorded Future article (https://lnkd.in/eFUumYRz) revealed a surge in Akira ransomware activity, with 35 new victims posted to their leak site in a single day. According to their research, 32 of these were fresh compromises, primarily targeting U.S. business services sectors. The Ransomware Defense Initiative (RDI) framework provides a structured approach to counter this specific ransomware threat (https://lnkd.in/eCHV77se). When examining CISA's Advisory AA24-109a (https://lnkd.in/ecRW8zEH) alongside RDI, it identifies some effective countermeasures such as: - Strong Identity Controls: Implementing robust MFA, privileged access management, and credential monitoring - Network Architecture: Enforcing segmentation and implementing zero-trust principles - Access Management: Deploying time-based access controls and least-privilege enforcement - Detection & Response: Enhancing monitoring capabilities across the attack surface The unusual volume of Akira's victim data release - 35 organizations in one day - signals a worrying shift toward more aggressive tactics.
