Meeting potential new partners for the project DigiTechPort2030, keeping up with scientific research on maritime topics and networking – that was all part of the annual event of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme 2021-2027, research associate Elizaveta Diatlova took in September part in for the European Project Center and represented the project. During several events during the conference there were interactive games, abstract teambuilding and even a glimpse how things are looking under the sea during a walk through the Ozeaneum. Some ideas for future projects also popped up. The project DigiTechPort2030 is about the decarbonisation of small ports’ ecosystems for efficient environmental and energy management towards south Baltic fit for 55. The interreg-project is co-funded by the European Union and aims at providing access to missing knowledge on green transition and decarbonisation for such ports by developing and deploying two solutions by the end of 2026. On the one hand a Green Energy Harmonisation Toolbox and on the other hand a EU Regulation and Green Policy Compliance Roadmap of Green Transition for SMSPs.

Over the last decade, #NorthAmerica has become the dominant region in the world for #oil, #naturalgas #LNG and #cleanenergy production, with powerful benefits for attracting #investment, increasing #trade, promoting #innovation and reducing #emissions. In a world where we are competing with #China and nascent trading blocks for influence, it is more important than ever that we strengthen North American integration. MAGNETIC SEPARATION IS THE BASIS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES OF THE FUTURE (MSBEPTF)   Progressive environmental protection technologies involve transition to renewable energy sources. MSBEPTF allows in a single technological cycle to disinfect and dewater sewage sludge without additional heat energy consumption and to obtain fuel pellets or granular soil mixtures with a moisture content of 30-40%. MSBEPTF foresees usage of unique magnetic coagulants and flocculants with disinfecting properties. Operating costs are 30% lower than traditional technologies. Hardware design guarantees reliability, easy installation and operation. There are no greenhouse gas emissions. The goal of the project is organization of climate-neutral, self-supporting, research and industrial production with a flexible technological scheme for commercial products manufacturing from sewage sludge on the basis of MSBEPTF. Decision analysis tool for a sustainable energy transition⚡🌱 When making decisions with regards to the sustainability assessment of energy technologies and systems, one is often confronted with conflicting challenges such as attaining low costs for the end user, keeping a minimum impact on the environment or a maximum acceptance by society. Multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) helps, taking into account economic, environmental, and social criteria at the same time. In order to facilitate MCDA for a sustainable energy transition, ITAS researchers are developing the Helmholtz MCDA Tool (HELDA). The software tool results from an ongoing collaboration between ITAS and the Institute for Thermal Energy Technology and Safety (ITES) at KIT. Opening up publications can help spread knowledge, especially, energy related engineering applications

Delighted to have participated in this publication with my coauthors Emanuele Giovannetti, Golnoush Soroush, Tooraj Jamasb and Manuel Llorca. In our chapter “Digitalisation and Economic Regulation in the Energy Sector” we conclude that digitalisation in the energy sector requires making some improvements and adjustments in several components of its regulatory framework. These include: the remuneration framework for grid operators, the standardisation and interoperability of all the involved devices and data formats, and the provisions to incentivise and promote innovative solutions. Setting interoperability requirements becomes increasingly relevant with the connection of more digital devices in the power system and is essential to ensure fair competition in the provision and adoption of digital solutions.
