If there’s one thing that’s truly transformed fintech, it’s APIs. Whether you’re building a payment solution, a trading platform, or even something like Plaid’s financial infrastructure, APIs are the backbone. Here’s why APIs are a game-changer in fintech: Speed to Market: APIs allow you to integrate powerful tools and services without building everything from scratch. Data Sharing: Securely accessing user data across platforms and services is made possible, all while maintaining privacy and compliance. Innovation on Steroids: By leveraging APIs, developers can build on top of existing solutions, creating new and innovative products much faster. APIs are where fintech innovation thrives.

#FinTech | #Innovation | #Sandbox : Many fintech offerings are inherently global, they ultimately need desirable places to land and intersect with traditional financial markets. Where sandboxes are too restrictive and often disconnected from real markets, airports have the opportunity to be more inviting by, for example, enabling banking partnerships for fintech companies, while setting the conditions for an extended regulatory stay (or in the parlance of regulatory licensing, passporting). A regulatory airport can be more strategically linked to investment promotion initiatives or native financial, technological and talent ecosystems that may already be present in a jurisdiction. https://lnkd.in/gMYq5mmg

As head of Fintech at SmartDev, I look for interesting Fintech conferences to attend. I created a preliminary list for 2025 in a Google Drive document. The link is in the comments. Anyone can edit it. If you know of an exciting fintech conference in 2025 that is not on the list, please add it. I am starting a newsletter to send interesting Fintech/Insurtech news with some AI sprinkled in. Need a weekend #Fintech policy read? I'm pleased to share my latest reflections published today by World Economic Forum on how fintechs have outgrown regulatory sandboxes, as much as sandboxes have failed their investment promotion and regulatory learning agenda. In their place, I propose airports because fintech competitiveness and the speed of markets requires places to land and expand, not playgrounds. https://lnkd.in/eHQdKnk2

A thought-provoking read by Circle’s Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Global Policy Dante A. Disparte, where he reflects on how fintechs have outgrown regulatory sandboxes. 💡He discusses how regulatory airports provide fintech startups greater access to real-world commercial opportunities, surpassing the limitations of traditional sandboxes. This model facilitates both financial and strategic growth while ensuring adherence to regulatory compliance. 🇦🇪 In this context, the #UAE is a good example where Regulatory airports have established clearer entry conditions by facilitating product passporting and transparent disclosure. For instance, in the volatile crypto market, some regulators require exchanges to pre-clear and uniformly disclose risks. This approach not only fosters ongoing innovation but also ensures that consumers and regulators can make informed decisions. ADGM exemplifies this model, promoting a balanced environment for fintech growth and consumer protection. Other successful global fintech hubs adopting this regulatory airport model include New York, and Singapore. World Economic Forum Emmanuel Givanakis Wai Lum Kwok Simon O'Brien Brian B.
