The IFM team have returned from #ParisInfraweek, following back-to-back discussions on the climate challenges we face today – as well as the investment strategies and adaptation solutions that will need to be deployed to overcome them. David Cooper and Lucie Mixeras joined Guillaume Camus as he spoke on “Transitioning from brown to green: addressing mitigation and adaptation.” Guillaume shares his key highlights below, noting that long-term infrastructure investors have a critical role to play as we continue to decarbonise and adapt together.
It was a pleasure to participate to the #ParisInfraweek, together with my IFM colleagues David Cooper and Lucie Mixeras. On the inaugural day, I joined a discussion on “Transitioning from brown to green: addressing mitigation and adaptation”. We discussed the challenges ahead: ◾ Climate change mitigation through the reduction of carbon emissions is a critical and collective challenge ◾ However as climate change progresses, adaptation is also becoming increasingly essential ◾ Adaptation projects are not generating cash flows, but instead deliver value by reducing potential losses ◾ Hence benefits are difficult to measure and the funding gap is growing But also how they are being tackled: ✅ Dedicated investment strategies now channel large amounts of capital towards attractive decarbonisation investments ✅ Numerous solutions to increase infrastructure asset resilience already exist – from preventive maintenance to structural investments ✅ Adaptation plans have become an integral part of investment processes, in addition to mitigation Bottom line – long-term infrastructure investors have a critical role to play as we continue to decarbonise and adapt. Thanks to Paris Europlace for hosting another great event. #IFMInvestors #decarbonisation #mitigation #adaptation #infrastructure #investment
