As a large business, you're required to report on your greenhouse gas emissions. And while including your Scope 3 emissions isn't a mandatory requirement, it can have a significant impact on your energy or sustainability strategies. Scope 3 covers indirect emissions across your supply chain - as reported by Energy Live News (https://bit.ly/3KDck67). Addressing these directly gives you a clearer picture of your carbon footprint and ensures that your net zero strategy accounts for all elements of your business. We can help you decarbonise your estate and remain compliant. Learn more about GHG reporting: https://lnkd.in/egF28G8p #ghgreporting #decarbonisation #carbonmanagement

Reducing our Greenhouse Gas Emissions is integral to our #sustainability strategy. We actively strive to improve waste, water, energy and fuel use. In 2023, 71% of our electricity was sourced from renewable or zero carbon sources. A significant milestone on our journey to achieving carbon neutrality in our global operations by 2030. If the goal is to be truly #sustainable, all three greenhouse gas emission areas must reach net zero in the long term. If you're not familiar with the model, it's actually quite simple: Area 1 includes the direct release of climate-damaging gases in your own company. Area 2 stands for the indirect release of climate-damaging gases by #energy #suppliers. And area 3 includes the indirect release of climate-damaging gases in the upstream and downstream supply chain. In other words: absolutely everything. That's why, while we're proud of our goal of achieving net-zero #greenhouse #gas #emissions in business operations across all our sites and facilities by 2030, this is only an interim goal for us. By 2050 at the latest, we aim to have #net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in all areas 1 to 3 of our value chain, according to the Science Based Targets initiative. That's where we want to go. We will continue to work on this. #jungheinrich #sustainability #environment #zeroemissions

A guide for Measuring Avoided Emissions
Former BP Regulatory Compliance and Environment Director Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey Region PhD in Petrochemistry Scientist, Lecturer
🌍 Scope 4 Emissions: A Guide to Measuring Avoided Emissions 🌱 Did you know there’s an emerging concept in sustainability beyond Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions? Scope 4 emissions—though not officially part of the GHG Protocol—refer to avoided emissions, the reductions achieved by replacing higher-emitting alternatives with low-carbon solutions. How to Calculate Scope 4 Emissions: 1️⃣ Define the Baseline: Establish what emissions would occur in a “business-as-usual” scenario (e.g., a gasoline car). 2️⃣ Measure Baseline Emissions: Quantify emissions for the baseline using activity data and emission factors. 3️⃣ Measure New Scenario Emissions: Calculate emissions from your product, service, or process (e.g., an EV powered by renewable electricity). 4️⃣ Subtract to Find Avoided Emissions: 5️⃣ Ensure Transparency: Clearly document assumptions, boundaries, and methods to avoid double-counting. Example: A solar farm replacing a coal-powered plant: • Baseline: Coal plant emissions over 25 years. • New Scenario: Lifecycle emissions of solar panels. • Avoided Emissions: The difference between the two. While Scope 4 isn’t officially standardized, it’s a powerful way to demonstrate the climate impact of innovative, sustainable solutions. We can drive progress by measuring not just what we emit, but what we help prevent! 💡 #Sustainability #GHGEmissions #Scope4 #ClimateAction #ESG

Are you settling for just reporting your CO₂ emissions? Standard climate reporting is great for regulatory compliance, but it’s often retrospective and doesn’t drive immediate change. An EMS-based solution, however, gives you real-time insights and actionable data to reduce your energy consumption now—not just report on it later. 💡 Discover the key differences and how to transition from a reporting tool to a true energy management platform that optimizes your business operations, minimizes costs and simplifies your day-to-day energy management. CARBON PRICING IN THE POWER SECTOR Carbon pricing is a policy tool that incentivizes emissions reduction. It could take the form of either a carbon tax or an Emissions Trading System (ETS). A decade ago, carbon pricing policies covered only 7% of global emissions. Today, nearly 25% are covered by these instruments. In 2023, carbon pricing revenues reached a record $104 billion The power sector is the world's leading source of greenhouse gas emissions. Limiting the worst effects of a changing climate requires rapid growth in clean energy supply. Getting carbon pricing right can influence everything from power generation options to investment decisions and customers' behaviors The report: "Carbon Pricing in the Power Sector: Role and design for transitioning toward net-zero carbon development" delves deep into the power sector value chain dynamics, demonstrating how well-designed carbon pricing instruments can be instrumental in helping countries reach their decarbonization goals. #Carbonpricing #power #netzero #carbon #emissions #energytransition #decarbonization #ETS #carbontax
