Agricultural & Food Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur is organizing a Global Initiatives of Academic Network (GIAN) Course on "Characterization of Agricultural Particulate Materials for Effective Handling and Processing," scheduled from 16th to 20th December, 2024 at the AgFE Department, IIT Kharagpur. The last date of registration is 5th December, 2024. Journey from being a 5-pointer to the best outgoing 4-year UG student in Chemical Engineering. I am glad to share that I received the prestigious Shri Ghisa Lal Kamdar Memorial Medal during the 57th Convocation ceremony at IIT Kanpur. This award is given to the best outgoing 4-year UG student in the Chemical Engineering department based on good academic standing, involvement in social and community services, and leadership activities. The journey was way better than expected. Starting with the online semesters, we had our bulla sessions on Zoom calls. Not only limited to Zoom calls, the Bihar group also had physical meets. I also went on my first trip with college friends to Darjeeling during this online semester. When the results were announced, I found myself a 5pointer. However, I was not much worried about it. What worried me more was when the campus would reopen and I could finally go there. After 3-4 online semesters, the college finally reopened. We got to see each other's faces without any filter. Coming to the campus, I got involved in several clubs and societies, namely Hindi Sahitya Sabha IIT Kanpur, Public Policy and Opinion Cell, IIT Kanpur, and the Chemineers Society. I want to thank all the seniors, juniors and team members who were part of these clubs and societies. These activities not only helped me develop leadership skills but also allowed me to socialize more and develop some new skills. Gradually, my CPI also increased, and I am graduating with a CPI of 8. To cover all the major happenings would require many posts. So, to keep this post concise and share my learnings, I would like to offer some suggestions to my juniors: 1. Keep yourself busy on campus not only through academics. 2. Roam and explore every corner of campus and rooftops with your friends. 3. Participate in inter-hall competitions. Trust me, you will have amazing experiences. 4. Go on more college trips with your friends. 5. Talk with your seniors and professors. I'm thrilled to share that I'm starting my master's thesis as part of the BS-MS dual degree program at IISER Mohali, guided by the renowned Prof. Dr. Sourav Pal. Currently leading the Chemistry Department at Ashoka University in Sonipat, Haryana, Dr. Pal is an acclaimed theoretical chemist. His notable scientific contributions include the development of the Multi-reference Coupled Cluster (MRCC) Theory and a non-iterative approach to coupled cluster perturbed Kohn-Sham density functional theory equations. His illustrious career spans roles such as Director of Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Kolkata, Director of CSIR- National Chemical Laboratory, and Chemistry Professor at IIT Bombay . His vast experience is further enriched by his time as a visiting professor and guest lecturer at prestigious global institutions, including the University of Arizona, Tucson, USA; University of Torun, Poland; and IIT Kharagpur and IIT Goa in India.
