Active surveillance for #prostatecancer patients doesn't mean that nothing is done - this is an option that in some cases is just as relevant as the curative treatment for others. Once we may ensure the sufficient accuracy in localizing and characterizing cancer, watchful observation could be the best option to manage some prostate cancer patients. Please find a chance to read the paper on "Personalization and efficiency in prostate cancer care" webinar that we have held couple of months ago [there is a link to it in the "Related content" section too]. Here Mukesh Harisinghani, Dr. med. Paulo Leonardo Pfitzinger and I talk about today's best practices and challenges in prostate cancer management, as well, discuss our aspirations for tomorrow's greater care. #oncology #gehealthcare https://lnkd.in/eV3BQTtr

Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer diagnosed in the United States. Buffalo Hospital is the first location in the Allina Health system to use an artificial intelligence-based tool to screen for colorectal cancer. Called GI Genius, it is designed to help with the detection of colorectal polyps, often the precursor to colorectal cancer. This tool helps the provider detect flat polyps faster and in hard-to-view areas. This is another example of Allina Health being a leader in care innovations that leverage technologies, like artificial intelligence. Important steps towards further personalizing radiation therapy, considering late toxicity as an important component of outcome.
This year, approximately 300,000 men in the U.S. received a prostate cancer diagnosis, bringing the total to over 3.3 million cases. Nearly half of men diagnosed with localized prostate cancer will undergo radiation therapy, of which 15% will experience late-grade GU toxicity. Understanding an individual’s response to treatment is paramount. PROSTOX marks a pivotal step forward, enabling healthcare providers to assess the risk of adverse reactions and formulate suitable treatment plans that prioritize patient safety in prostate cancer management. Think testosterone therapy is off-limits after a prostate cancer diagnosis? Think again. Research shows prostate cancer only relies on testosterone up to a certain point—levels above 250 ng/dL don’t increase risk, and low testosterone might even worsen outcomes. Studies also suggest testosterone therapy doesn’t cause cancer recurrence, even in advanced cases, and may reduce the risk of aggressive cancer. While the American Urological Association supports testosterone therapy for low-risk cases, outdated myths still hold many doctors back. If you’re a prostate cancer survivor with low testosterone, talk to your doctor—it might be time to reconsider. #ProstateCancer #TestosteroneTherapy #MedicalMyths

A meta-analysis of 5,504 patients revealed that pretreatment of [18F]FDG-PET metrics can predict outcomes in esophageal cancer. Higher SUVmax was significantly associated with poor progression-free survival (PFS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS)/disease-free survival (DFS), while SUVmean and metabolically active tumor volume are tied to worse OS. A systematic review reveals distinct characteristics of early-onset colorectal cancer. It's less likely to involve KRAS, BRAF, and APC mutations but shows higher rates of TP53 and PTEN mutations. Additionally, it's linked to more aggressive histological features like high-grade and signet ring cell histologies. These findings underscore the importance of developing specialized treatment approaches for this younger patient group, potentially leading to better prognostic outcomes. Let’s discuss how these insights can transform care for early-onset CRC patients. #ColorectalCancer #CancerResearch #MedicalInnovation 🧬
