Uncovering the Mechanisms Behind Severe Inflammation in Asthma 🫁 Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital found that prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) can elicit mast cells to create soluble ST2 (sST2), which blocks interleukin 33 and mitigates asthma symptoms. This suggests mast cells can both drive and suppress inflammation. Published in “Immunity” (Cell Press) their study used mouse models and patient data to show that PGE2 levels correlate with milder asthma symptoms.
