Countries, politicians, citizens, companies, etc. need to get their acts together to stop global warming and look at :- 1) stopping deforestation. 2) speeding up reforestation. 3) energy & water conservation. 4) reducing food wastage. 5) phasing out the use of coal by 2030. 6) recycling. 7) slowing down urbanisation. 8) better design & energy efficient buildings. 9) incorporating energy efficient technologies. 10) incentivising & adopting clean energy solutions. Many politicians talk a lot of ESG without really considering the above points in combating global warming.

LSE President and Vice Chancellor Larry Kramer argues the fight for #sustainability needs to focus on implementation. While greater ambition on #climate change is still needed, the most effective way to get it is to successfully deploy the technologies we have and successfully carry out the pledges that have already been made. We have many of the technologies we need, and where these are lacking, they are in development. With the right kind of support and encouragement, we have good reason to believe these can be available in time. https://lnkd.in/ghYm2BBK

Based on 3,524 companies assessed in the 2023 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), companies across sectors focus less on physical climate risk adaptation than on reducing emissions. Nature-based Solutions can play a larger role in corporate decarbonization and climate adaptation strategies. Read the full research article: https://ow.ly/kgRR50R5Ehc

Four UN SDGs that relate to my area of research (a) UN SDG 2: ZERO HUNGER We need to plant improved seeds that can grow well and not be affected by the current global warming. Within a short period, they will be ready for harvest and yet give good crop yield. That way we shall have an abundance of food. Some crops will be available all year round. The farmers would have been taught, irrigation provided, and the necessary crops and tools to use. (b) UN SDG 11: SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES The population of the world is increasing and there is a lot of rural migration to the urban areas. In most cities, the population increase is not monitored and this has led to demand for shelter and other infrastructure. A lot of Green Areas and Open Spaces have been used up to meet these needs and the result is Heat Island. Such cities are not liveable. Through my research works I have pointed out some of these, all stakeholders need to be educated to change have have more Green and Open Spaces. (c)UN SDG 12: RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION Our natural resources such as Land, Water, Wood, and Fossil Fuels are finite so they need to be used sustainably. Urbanization and industrialization have made man sometimes overuse some of these natural resources and the result is the effect we are witnessing in plants and animal species going extinct. Also, some of our cities are experiencing flooding because the Wetlands have all been built up, so when it rains the water stays longer and we are having Urban Flooding. My research centers around these so that the masses are educated so that we can manage the available land by designing High Rise Buildings instead of Bungalows. Also, we could have Mix Used Buildings so that we can still maintain Green and Open Spaces. (d)UN SDG 12: CLIMATE ACTION The entire world is experiencing global climate change and this is due to both natural and man-made effects. Due to man’s activities and urbanization, a lot of trees have been felled and not replanted. Also the burning of fossil fuel and the use of wood for furniture. Further, the lifestyle of consuming everything packaged or processed thereby generating a lot of waste that is not properly managed has damaged our environment greatly thereby resulting in global warming. Some things can be done through awareness such as this year’s theme for the WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY: A LECTURE ON LAND RESTORATION, DESERTIFICATION, AND DROUGHT RESILIENCE. #ExicitedAboutSSETS @Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office @Lancaster University @British Council @National University Commission(NUC) @Rivers State University(RSU) @Dr. Mina Ogbanga @HYPREP @NES @NIA @ADIS @Dr. Patrick Uwajeh @Dr. Benedicta Uchendu
