Here at Black Cape, we work hard to help our clients solve hard problems. This past weekend, several of us helped solve a different kind of problem: running a Ragnar Events LLC Relay. 🏃♂️💼 120(ish) miles, 8 teammates, 2 days of pushing boundaries, cheering each other on, and overcoming every obstacle that came our way. It was more than just a race—it was a perfect metaphor for our workplace culture. At Black Cape, teamwork and collaboration aren't just buzzwords—they’re the foundation of everything we do. Ragnar emphasized things we already know and live every day: 🤝 The power of trust: Just like in the race, we rely on each other to deliver, whether it's handing off the baton or wrapping up a project. 🧠 Resilience: When the hours got long and the miles tougher, we dug deep, just like when challenges arise at work. We push through, together. 🎉 Celebrating each other: Every finish line—big or small—is a reason to celebrate. Just like we do at work, we lifted each other up, keeping energy high with positive reinforcement and support. Being part of this corporate Ragnar team reminded me why I love working here—success is a team effort, and together, we consistently go the distance. Oh, and did I mention we took third place in our division? That was the icing on the cake. We've already signed up not one but two teams for next year's race! Yet another reason why I love what I do, and the support we consistently receive from our Black Cape leaders, Al Di Leonardo, Abe Usher, Brian Poe, among many others. #RagnarRelay #Teamwork #CorporateCulture #WorkplaceWellness #Collaboration #Endurance #BlackCape

Alright, let’s get real for a second. By now, you’ve seen some of my initial “travel with me” adventures in NYC. Maybe you’ve caught some FOMO. Maybe you’ve thought, “That sounds fun, but...” Well, consider this your sign to stop scrolling and start saying YES. Here’s the deal: I’m about to kick off my Charlotte experience—deep dives into life and business, breakthroughs, amazing food, and some of the best the city has to offer. And I’ve got even more trips lined up: - NYC this fall (you know, when the air is crisp and Broadway is exploding with new shows) - Dallas for the Red River Shootout (Oct 12, y’all know what’s up) - Cleveland for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (channel your inner rock god/goddess) - Las Vegas to see THE EAGLES at The Sphere (I mean, come on, it’s The Sphere!) - And let’s not forget Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Atlanta… adventure awaits. This isn’t just sightseeing. We’re talking life-changing work—clarity on your next big move, breakthroughs that actually stick, and strategy sessions that’ll make your career and life hum. So what are you waiting for? Drop the word “adventure” in the comments or DM me if you’re ready to make big things happen while eating world-class pizza, hitting up Broadway, or rocking out in Cleveland. Because the only thing standing between you and your next big leap is YOU. Let’s do this. #TravelWithMe #NYCInTheFall #RedRiverShootout #BroadwayBound #BreakthroughMoments #JohnAlanTurner

When I was an active member of the Rotaract Club, one of the most exciting aspects for me was always citing the 4-Way Test. The way it resonates with me, both personally and professionally, is remarkable. As I often reflect on it, I find it to be a powerful guide for how we interact with others at home, in the community, or in business. The 4-Way Test of the things we think, do, or say: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Is it beneficial to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Let's focus on the fourth point: Will it build goodwill and better friendships? In every relationship, whether personal or professional, fostering goodwill should be a priority. Goodwill is the foundation of trust and respect, which strengthens bonds and leads to enduring friendships. In business, it builds networks and partnerships that can thrive on mutual understanding. In our communities and homes, it fosters a sense of belonging and support. As we go about our daily activities, let’s ask ourselves—are we building goodwill? Are we cultivating friendships that inspire growth, collaboration, and trust? These are the values that enrich our lives and create lasting impact. Have a beautiful Wednesday😍

Those who know me know that my love for the San Francisco 49ers isn't just a hobby, it's a family legacy! 🏈 This weekend, despite the loss, was another chapter in our tradition of cheering, shouting, and yes, sometimes sighing, alongside our favorite team. Passing down this ritual to my daughter means teaching her about more than just football; it’s about resilience, loyalty, and the art of seeing a game through, no matter the score. At Orange Grove Creative Co., we channel that same die-hard energy into every project. Whether we're facing down a tight deadline or brainstorming a game-changing campaign, we bring the spirit of a fourth-quarter comeback to our work. So, how do you blend passion and tradition into your professional endeavors? Drop a comment below—we might just have more in common than our favorite teams! #49ersFaithful #TeamTraditions #MarketingInnovation #ResilienceInAction #CreativeLeadership #OrangeGroveCreativeCo

We’ve all been through these nightmarish, one-time, ‘someone thinks it’s going to be the magic bullet that gets everyone aligned’ events. I’ve heard it from peers, and we hear it from customers all the time, essentially: “we don’t have budget for everyone to have daily coaching because we just spent 6 figures on a 2 day leadership retreat” (or something to that effect). As an L&D and People Strategy professional I’ve constantly had to fight the thought that some leadership conference or retreat is going to “fix everything” and is worth a giant investment, but the other 360+ days a year are sort of left with… not much. We’re not magicians, and a singular event is not a magic wand. Yes, team building can be valuable. Yes, retreats can be helpful. But we also need to think about what’s best to reinforce what we’re doing in the day to day, and not just a couple days a year for a select few in the org.
Not only will you not get left at the top of a mountain, but Cloverleaf costs so much less. I am always amazed at the lengths and $$ that companies are willing to spend on big team building activities for a select few but won't spend a few dollars per employee to provide a year of personalized coaching to everyone in the company. Next time, skip mountain climbing adventure (although it does sound fun), and instead give your team something they really need. https://lnkd.in/gq5fcykz

I think the biggest key to success is surrounding yourself with people who inspire you. Last night I was in a room full of people that inspire me every day to be better not only for myself, but for my clients. This past year with New York Life has developed my professionalism in ways I never imagined, and I can’t wait to see what my team and I accomplish in 2024. We’re just getting started ✨🏆 #newyorklife #2024kickoff #financialservices

They Taught Me Thursday 🙏 It’s just after 9 pm, somewhere between line 6 or 7 of the “Honey Do” list that I seem to not always be the greatest of succeeding at. As I sit down for a breather, it appears: an e-mail of legacy centered upon City Gear from one of the boldest & most passionate Company ambassadors I have ever met: Taylor Smith…don’t worry, you’ll hear more about her one day soon in this collection! 😉 In that timely e-mail, Taylor sends a deck…an attachment of “over the years” nostalgic images celebrating City Gear…& wouldn’t you know it: the first one smacks me in the face like an excited kid running into a crystal-clear back porch door. Yes, that image being the one you see below; at center stage an icebox meets radiator level of strong leader named Mike Longo, our CEO, a man of the people who could teach a masterclass on courageous leadership amongst other bold qualities. I remember the first time I got to hear @hibbettceo talk to us, challenge us, & push us. I was a District Sales Manager, & the message was simple, direct, yet motivating: if you don’t have sweat over your brow, you’re not working hard enough. 💦 I can’t tell you how often that exact message from Mike has reverberated around in the chambers of my daily drive to serve others with humility in my heart, pep in my step, & sweat over my brow. Sometimes I succeed…other times I fail spectacularly. Yet, no matter the result, I am conscious of my effort & that it had better be that of my very best always. I have this & so much more in gratitude for a leader like Mike Longo & his irreplaceable stamp upon my career & life. The same can be said for Mickey Newsome, Jeff Rosenthal, Cathy Pryor, Ben Knighten, & so many others. Like them, like Mike, you stand for what you believe in; you dare to lead; but you also look for the humanity in others, as you help them to see the humanity in you. As I move forward in my continued career of humble service to our Company, I carry this all with me…& plenty of sweat on my brow! Speaking of which, back to that “Honey Do” list, as my beautiful wife is deserving of that level of my effort too! 😅 #theytaughtmethursday #citygear #hibbett #teamwork They Taught Me Thursday’ is a collection series of reflections upon pivotal leaders from my career. There is no rank order, only an abundance of them! Read more on Instagram @geartownbrown 😊
