Visibility is only half the game. For consultants, being seen is useless if it doesn't help you build the right relationships. As consultants, expertise alone doesn’t bring clients through the door. You need to be seen - by the right people. As Oscar Wilde said, “There is only one thing worse than being talked about, and that’s not being talked about.” But I learned a thing or two about it in the last years. For us in consulting, visibility without relationships is just noise. Being active on LinkedIn or in industry media doesn’t mean new business will come knocking. Consulting is a trust-based activity. Clients hire you because they trust you to solve their problems. And trust doesn’t grow from visibility alone. It’s built through real, meaningful connections. Honest and challenging conversations. And true demonstration of expertise. Visibility is often the biggest challenge for early-stage consultancies. But don’t just aim to be visible. Aim to be trusted. Being seen is only as valuable as the connections you make.
