Celebrating 45 years in the alcoholic beverage industry, with a rich career spanning 35 years at Southern Wine & Spirits, transitioning to roles such as personal advisor to Bardstown Bourbon's founder Peter Lofton, President at Darke’s Organic Spirits, and Head of Distribution at Elevated Spirits. Insights gathered over the years: - Not every brand can achieve the status of Tito’s or Casa Amigos. - Launching a brand effectively in the US requires a substantial investment of 20-30 million dollars. - Essential to have team members with strong industry connections in both national and local markets to collaborate with distributor sales consultants and managers. - Develop a comprehensive plan aligned with the distributor's goals. - Begin with a modest approach, focusing on a maximum of three states initially. - Emphasize Social Media engagement and forge partnerships with reputable retailers and restaurateurs to enhance brand visibility and traction. - Senior leaders should dedicate a day each week to engaging with the market, fostering relationships, and staying abreast of industry trends and market dynamics. - Collaborate closely with distributor partners to assess data, monitor brand performance, and maintain open communication. - Prioritize brand reorders and sales velocity to ensure distributor sales consultants can maximize commissions and deliver value to customers. During my teen years, my biggest passion was collecting beer cans from around the world—over 700 of them, each carefully stacked in a pyramid that followed me from one apartment to the next. Looking back, I realize it wasn’t just a quirky hobby; it was the start of a lifelong fascination with brands, stories, and the countries and communities that shape them. This passion paved my path into the beverage industry. Starting at The Beer Store (Brewer’s Retail back then), I learned firsthand about sales, distribution, marketing, operations and the nuances that make each brand unique. After graduating from McMaster and gaining valuable field sales experience, I honed my skills with Peller in Winona and later moved into a marketing role working with brands at Remy Canada like Absolut Vodka, The Famous Grouse, Macallan and Beck’s Beer. It’s these steps—each one built on the last—that gave me the confidence and insight to launch KMAC. While collecting cans my favourites were the sports ones, especially Iron City and their Steelers Super Bowl cans. Who knew that the Iron City Steelers Super Bowl cans would be a catalyst for my future career? We never truly know where our early passions might lead us, but if we follow them wholeheartedly, they have a way of setting our course toward something bigger. Your background, your interests, and your personal obsessions can all become building blocks of your professional journey so why not try to embrace them. They just might give you the edge—and the heart—you need to build something incredible. This is the essence of championing The Bigger Picture Game.

I’m thrilled to share a recent accomplishment from my PepsiCo Sales Simulation Certification Project. As part of this project, I took on the role of a Sales Manager and successfully tackled a real-world scenario that involved securing an incremental display for the new Doritos Flamin’ Hot Cool Ranch flavor ahead of the Superbowl. Here’s a snapshot of what we achieved: 🔍 Situation: We identified a fantastic opportunity to boost our Doritos sales by securing an additional display at a Big Box store. Despite initial resistance from the store manager, we persevered and turned a "no" into a "yes." 💼 Planning and Execution: Product Order: Secured a delivery of 400 bags of the popular Doritos Flamin’ Hot Cool Ranch flavor. Scheduled Setup: Planned the display setup for the following Wednesday morning to ensure everything was perfectly timed for the Superbowl rush. Team Collaboration: Provided additional support to our Sales Representative, Amari, who was feeling overwhelmed. By coordinating extra team members to assist with the setup, we ensured a smooth and efficient process. 🤝 Leadership and Support: I focused on using my leadership and interpersonal skills to motivate and support Amari through this busy period. By breaking down tasks, offering clear plans, and ensuring Amari had the support needed, we turned a challenging situation into a successful outcome. 📈 Results and Impact: Last year, our strategic displays led to the sale of over 2,110 bags of Doritos during the Superbowl period. This year, with our enhanced display strategy, we project selling approximately 2,400 bags, contributing to significant market share growth for Doritos. This project was a fantastic opportunity to apply strategic thinking, leadership, and teamwork to drive sales and ensure customer satisfaction.
