Great article Jared Cooney Horvath, PhD, MEd. As reflective and evaluative educators, this makes me rethink what we are reflecting on. Are we reflecting on how our learning design builds connection/s? Are we reflecting on how our design of learning creates a web of knowledge? How much do we know about how our learners learn, and what are we intentionally and responsively doing about that? https://lnkd.in/gGYzWmT4

Are "learning styles" an educational urban legend? Current neuroscience seems to think so due to the lack of supporting evidence. Instead, it's said to be more about the context of the learning, whether someone is a novice or experienced, and designing for learning with how we tick in mind 🧠 Have a read of this article and let me know what you think! https://lnkd.in/deiKEYH #BrainsOnChange

Can going old-school in education methods help us learn better? Sweden's education system is embracing traditional methods like physical textbooks and handwriting, moving away from digital tools. This is a great article by Jared Cooney Horvath, PhD, MEd, that explains the reasons behind the decision and how we can train our brains to learn better. Here are our top 3 takeaways from the article: 1. Empathy Boosts Learning: Strong student-teacher relationships enhance learning much more than digital tools. Empathy releases oxytocin, which helps with better learning. 2. Memorisation Matters: To think creatively and critically, you need to deeply learn and remember information. Just having access to facts isn’t enough. 3. Focus is Key: Digital multitasking hurts learning. Focusing on single tasks like reading physical books improves comprehension and retention. Curious to learn more? Check out the full article and see how this approach can benefit you! #Education #Learning #Empathy #Focus

For my fellows educators: Point of Departure: Returning to Our More Authentic Worldview for Education and Survival by Four Arrows. Using the four sacred directions as cognitive bridges into the circle of all, Four Arrows walks the reader through trance based, Transformative Learning; Courage as connection - not fear-based; and the Indigenous grammar of communication and truth-telling, with neither restricted to humans plus Community Oriented SelfAuthorship. When I learn something new, it is that "ah-HA!" moment that continually enraptures me as a learner and educator. Lately however, that moment has been changing from an instantaneous insight to a mulling sensation; somewhere between a burning or itchy mind. It's new, and rather pleasant. From last week's readings and conversations in educational research, I came away with a new question: "How do I find an answer to a problem or a question without using my own experience as leverage?" As an educator, this makes me feel quite vulnerable. Yet, I'm more curious to find out what that answer may look like. ...See what I mean about that mulling brain sensation? ;) #EDU800 #WKLY Annotation #Week2 #Educational-Research #Experience-Aside
