I want to talk about the fourth level of leadership for a moment. That would be the people development level. In levels 1, 2 and 3, you are gaining knowledge and confidence as a leader as well as becoming an influencer to your people. Let me ask this, how do you separate yourself from other leaders now? It isn't the power you have over your people, but now it is the ability to empower your people. Empower simply means you are giving someone else the authority to do something. What you are doing by giving someone empowerment, is making them stronger and more confident in doing more for the organization. You are now starting to develop other leaders in the organization. Success without a successor is failure. To have a lasting and sustainable future, you have to develop other leaders.
