🌟 Rydberg Technologies is making waves with a $199,887 award from the United States Department of Defense, through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. This funding is part of the Small Technology Transfer Research Program Phase I. Rydberg Technologies is developing the foundation for three interrelated activities that will be further explored in Phase II. 🔧 This research involves expenses for R&D facilities and major equipment, focusing on the physical engineering and life sciences. The project will span 4 months, starting on August 28, 2024, and wrapping up on December 28, 2024. Kudos to Rydberg Technologies for their innovative approach! #STTR #Research #Engineering

Risk-adverse Decision Support Did you ever consider that your decisions may have consequences that work at cross-purposes? For example, if you press on in traffic to beat the evening rush - but doing so, you burn so much energy that you have to re-charge the car, wasting all the time you saved? Such decision-making quickly gets complex, taking many unknowns into account while reasoning about what you can and cannot do given your system's (the car) state and the current and expected situation. At TNO, we found a way to do it, with intelligent logistics being the first application area of this ongoing research. I'm thrilled to share that my latest peer-reviewed manuscript, "A Condition-Aware Stochastic Dynamic Control Strategy for Safe Automated Driving," has been accepted for publication in the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles. This paper introduces a novel control strategy that combines stochastic dynamic control with a condition-awareness approach to enhance the safety of automated driving systems. The novelty of the proposed method lies in a systematic integration of monitored external and internal conditions, estimated component degradation, and remaining useful life, with the controller’s dynamic responsiveness. This work successfully bridges the gap between reliability engineering and control systems, offering a comprehensive solution to reliability challenges in automated driving.
