iNEMI End-of-Project Webinar: Investigation of AI Enhancement to AOI for PCBAs — Join us November 12 or 13 for highlights of iNEMI’s evaluation and validation of AI-enhanced AOI systems. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a promising solution to enhance the capabilities of automated optical inspection (AOI) systems. It can help address the challenges of high false call rates and defect escapes, especially in more complex electronic designs. Initial project work by iNEMI evaluated and recommended AI technologies for AOI, established common performance metrics, and prepared test vehicles. In the second phase of the project, which is the focus of this webinar, the project team conducted rigorous experimentation using the metrics and test vehicles established in Phase 1. When I asked whether dimensional metrology will still be needed in the factory of tomorrow, I got a lot of backlash from the other participants in a roundtable on the topic of "AI in dimensional metrology"! I personally see enormous potential and I am 100% sure that we will already see very good AI products in dimensional metrology in the not too distant future. Some examples which are already available or will be available soon on the market: 🎯 New evaluation modules/possibilities based on AI, f.e. Surface classification of lasered parts for quality assurance of the bonding process 🦾 User-independent and fully automatical measurement program creation for specific applications through AI 📱 Sensors with AI which collect and evaluate production process data directly in the manufacturing machine and can therefore assess quality I believe that we are still at the beginning of an exciting development and that we can not only improve dimensional measurement technology, but also take it to a whole new level with new approaches. Of course, there is still a lot to be discussed in dimensional metrology - especially in the direction of traceability, but no matter how much is discussed, the industry will go this direction!
