On November 20th, we had the privilege of learning alongside Jay McTighe and Starr Sackstein, diving into what it really means to design assessments that empower learners. 💎 from Jay McTighe: “Deep learning is below the surface. It takes time for students to truly understand abstract ideas or processes—but once they do, it endures.” This reminds us why enduring understandings and transfer goals are the ultimate signs of impactful learning. 💎 from Starr Sackstein: “You don’t have to change everything at once. Start small, with big-yield shifts.” Her advice? Begin with a small group, anchor your work in the why, and involve teachers in the journey to reduce resistance. Simple, practical, and game-changing. A special moment during Starr’s session was her conversation with Tahare Campbell, TLIS from the Gilman School!
