In 2023, the relationship between India and Canada experienced fluctuations, ranging from the deportation of Indian students to the implementation of a cap on international student intake in January 2024. Thus, resulting in a series of challenges and opportunities. The temporary intake cap is expected to lead to approximately 360,000 approved study permits at the undergraduate level. https://lnkd.in/gE9yeE_T Read more here^ #infinitenewsdesk #news #educationews #canada #international #students #proudlyinfinite

Updated Canadian Regulations Lead to Strategic Shifts for Indian Students and Agents Following a challenging year for India-Canada relations, including student deportations and diplomatic tensions, Canada has introduced a two-year cap on international study permits effective January 2024, limiting undergraduate approvals to around 360,000 yearly, in response to strains on national resources. Despite initial concerns, interest in Canadian education remains high among Indian students, notably for postgraduate studies unaffected by new regulations. According to 2022 data, Indian students in Canada mainly pursue college and university-level education. Education consultants like Megha Bohra observe a continued preference for postgraduate programs amidst these regulatory changes. To know more details... https://lnkd.in/gd45hDHb

In recent months, we've observed a growing hesitation among Indian students to apply for Master's degrees at UK universities. This shift is largely due to the stricter visa regulations implemented earlier this year, inducing new complexities and uncertainties, impacting students' aspirations and planning.#HigherEducation #InternationalStudents #UKUniversities #VisaRegulations #StudyAbroad https://lnkd.in/gtrEC8xq

In a significant shift, Indian students are increasingly turning to domestic universities as a safer bet due to escalating global uncertainty. Study abroad platforms have reported a surge in inquiries for Indian colleges as backup options. The reasons include protests, political unrest, tighter visa policies, geopolitical tensions, and economic slowdown in popular study destinations like Canada, Australia and the UK. https://lnkd.in/gMCCkbrZ Read more here^ #infinitenewsdesk #indian #students #universities #global #proudlyinfinite

More and more Indian parents are sending their kids to study abroad, and main reason, as it clearly evident from the below article that it is increasing rate of education inflation and quality of education in India. In our country #educationinflation is way too high around 11-12%!!!, with private universities also now charging fees almost in line with the US and UK universities with infrastructure and teaching methodologies not at all at par with those universities. And the with such a large population government colleges, institutions and universities cannot accommodate students in large numbers hence giving rise to extremely high competition, that too just for the admission! Then sending kids (those can afford and those who have done financial planning for that particular goal) abroad do makes sense which provides better #learningenvironment, #betteropportunities and #exposure, #handsonteachingmethodologies, most importantly turning out students #employable... #educationinflation #educationquality #financialplanning #educationgoal https://lnkd.in/dz35GxBK

An interesting read about Indian students in higher education, who contribute to the largest population of international admissions. While international students contribute to host countries' income, labour force and research, we're also witnessing changes in policies and shifts in public perspectives. Fuelled by a youthful dempgraphy and increasing wealth, and the fact that it is easier than ever to finance education (thanks also to edu focused fintechs/NBFCs), enrolment in India’s own universities is also rising. There's a growing demand for better prospects and opportunities, and with increasing internationalisation and collaborations between India and the rest of the world, it would be interesting to see how the future of #highereducation will be shaped.

Excellent article in The Economist on the rise of India’s international students. India’s domestic higher education sector has grown rapidly but is still too small and quality is patchy. In 2001 some 9m Indians attended higher-education institutions. Now the student body numbers about 43m, and domestic institutions have struggled to scale. Every month, 1 million Indians turn 18. The solution is international education, with Indian students now outnumbering Chinese students across the major English-speaking study destinations. Unlike Chinese students, Indian students typically want shorter, cheaper courses, need to work while studying, and want post-study work to pay off their tuition loans. What is the reason of Dramatic fall down of Number of students going to canada My response provides a detailed analysis based on your experience and insights from meeting clients daily at Sophiya Pan Indian office. Here's a refined version of my reply: Part 1: Impact on Top Canadian Universities Top universities in Canada, such as the University of Toronto, UBC, McGill, McMaster, Waterloo, and Western University, will not be significantly affected by the drop in student visa numbers. These institutions continue to attract bright minds and wealthy students. If there has been a decline, it's expected to recover or even increase by September 2025. Good agents know how to market high-quality educational opportunities effectively. Part 2: Reasons for the Dramatic Drop in Canadian Student Visa Numbers in colleges 1. Financial Sensitivity of the Indian Middle Class: The Indian middle class is highly sensitive to costs. The doubling of the Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) requirement and a 10-15% increase in fees at some government colleges over the past 1-2 years have contributed to the decline in student numbers. The total upfront cost of 26-30 lakhs INR is substantial, potentially eliminating 40% of the market middle class and lower middle class . Additionally, diploma programs at colleges face challenges as Indian banks typically do not offer education loans for these courses. 2. Poor Quality of Students at Private Colleges: The influx of students with poor academic backgrounds into private colleges in Canada has created a negative perception. Many of these students haven't cleared any English proficiency tests and lack financial planning and practical skills. Their presence and subsequent challenges have tarnished Canada's reputation through social media, impacting societal views. 3. Political and Social Factors: The political relationship between India and Canada has been unstable, with internal political groups in both countries defaming each other. Moreover, there's a perception in South India & central India state and generally that Canada has a significant farmer crowd, particularly from Punjab, with radical thinking. This has further spoiled Canada's image in the eyes of many potential students. Conclusion: The market will eventually improve, but not immediately. The new normal will likely feature lower numbers. However, motivated and experienced agents will help the market recover, possibly within 18 to 24 months. #recruitments #StudyinCanada #Students #Highereducation #Studyabroad #PGdiploma #Recruiters #LifeinCanada #Educationloan
