My first full week in Riyadh ☀️ After a couple of weeks training and traveling around, it was good to finally spend a full week in the new place I now call home. 🙌🏼 I was told so many mixed reviews about life in Riyadh before moving here, and I knew I would have to go and discover it for myself to get a full understanding of the way of life, and culture here. 🕌 Here are a few of my first-hand experiences so far: 1. The hospitality I have been shown has been unbelievable. There is not a single time in any location, whether in or outside of work, that I haven't been made to feel completely more than welcome. 🙏 2. The driving style is indeed different, and you need to be vigilant at all times! Personally, I quite like it. There is no "can I please cut in front of you?", it just happens. No nonsense, but overall I think it works. I know a lot of expats don't agree with me on this... 🚙💨 3. How you decide where to eat is worse than choosing a film on Netflix. There is mall, after mall, after outlet, after outlet 🛍️🍽️. My new rule is the first thing I see I'm having, or you don't eat until midnight. 🕛 4. Finally, the traffic is horrendous. No other word for it unfortunately, but what can you expect with a population of around Eight million people! If you have to be somewhere, specifically on a Friday night, then best of luck to you. Make sure you have water in the car!🚗🚦 Overall, I can honestly say I really like it here so far. Yes, the culture is different from anywhere else I have experienced before. And yes, it isn't for everyone. But you don't know until you come and experience it first-hand for yourself. 👍🏼 Have a great weekend everyone. Khobar Shines in the 2024 Global Smart Cities List In an achievement that reflects the diligent efforts and notable progress being witnessed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the technology and innovation sector, the city of Khobar has been listed among the global smart cities for the year 2024 by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). Khobar achieved the 99th rank, becoming the fifth Saudi city to join this prestigious list after #Riyadh, #Makkah, #Medina, and #Jeddah. This achievement is a fruit of the launch of "Saudi Vision 2030". It highlights the kingdom's commitment and ongoing development in various fields, especially in utilizing advanced technologies and building smart, sustainable communities. The Smart City Index by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) evaluates the technological readiness of cities and their efforts to improve the quality of life in areas such as health, safety, work, education, mobility, cultural activities, and governance. The inclusion of Khobar in the smart cities index is not only a confirmation of the Saudi cities' commitment to technological development and the building of smart, sustainable communities, but it also catalyzes attracting more global investments and creating new job opportunities, thereby enhancing economic growth and achieving the aspirations of "Vision 2030" towards a bright future for the kingdom.
