We're live from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá! 🌍 Prof. Mª del Mar Delgado-Serrano from Universidad de Córdoba, Project Coordinator of IN-HABIT, just shared the vision behind the project. At its core, IN-HABIT fosters collaboration between Córdoba, Lucca, Riga, Nitra, and also Bogotá and Medellín to address the common challenge of marginality. While each city has its unique context, marginalized communities share similar struggles, and the solution lies in a unified approach. A key focus is involving local communities at every stage—from planning and implementation to management and follow-up. The goal is to create inclusive transformation plans that empower residents to shape their own futures.💡🌱

Social innovation labs are collaborative spaces where diverse stakeholders can co-create and test innovative solutions to complex social issues. Innovation labs strive to be responsive, iterative, and forward-looking. But as the social landscape changes rapidly, experts in the field have paused ask: what's the future of labs? UM Community Innovation Lead, Brent Wellsch, reflects on his time at the Future of Labs gathering last month, which brought together some of the most experienced practitioners and conveners of social innovation labs from Canada and beyond: “My most fundamental takeaway has been contemplating the need to intentionally articulate our desired future, or range of futures, within a given context to create a clear direction to build towards. ” Read more on our blog: https://bit.ly/3zl29ka

We are delighted to present the 2024 edition of ‘Transport Planning: From Theory to Practice’! A workshop held by MIC-HUB and mobilità in città foundation at Politecnico di Milano. Mobility is essential to people's daily lives, providing access to resources and opportunities. However, the unequal distribution of mobility resources exacerbates social exclusion and systemic inequalities, disproportionately affecting marginalised communities. In this workshop, participants will gain an in-depth understanding of the role of transport planning in promoting sustainable, liveable and equitable communities. By examining the spatial distribution of road crashes involving marginalised micromobility users, they will uncover socio-economic and demographic factors that contribute to social segregation within micromobility spaces. The workshop aims to challenge prevailing paradigms that perpetuate unequal mobility distribution and to address mobility injustice in planning, design and policy-making. With a specific focus on micromobility users in disadvantaged neighbourhoods, participants will assess their needs and risks in accessing infrastructure. The workshop will provide hands-on learning opportunities. Participants will engage in action research to understand local experiences and translate findings into project proposals for community empowerment. The workshop is conducted in English and is divided into two main parts: the research part and the action part. Promotors: Prof. Andrea Arcidiacono, Prof. Carolina Pacchi and Dir. Massimo Bricocoli (DAStU - Politecnico di Milano), Federico Parolotto and Delia Valastro (MIC-HUB), Gaia Sgaramella (mobilità in città) and many other instructors and guest speakers. ⬇️ So what are you waiting for? Send in your application to workshop@mic-hub.com and come and join us! Our Arenberg Science Park welcomes a new building! 🏗👩🔬 Today, KU Leuven Research & Development, PMV, Flanders Make and Stad Leuven incorporated “Community Building Arenberg”: the legal grounds for a new building on the Arenberg Science Park in Heverlee that will house community facilities (a restaurant, a commercial offer, coworking spaces and meeting rooms) for the diverse businesses and research groups in the park. The building of 21,000 square meters is scheduled to open its doors at the end of 2027. It will not only provide an answer to the growing demand for infrastructure, but also create an ecosystem with a strong interaction between researchers and entrepreneurs which can lead to more innovation. See our press release for extra information 👉 https://lnkd.in/echhdwVr ❗ Important: the development of the site also includes a parking building with room for about 850 vehicles. Also a better connection with public transport and a new cycle highway are on the drawing board to promote multimodality when commuting to and from the Science Park. 🚌 🚴♀️ 🚶♂️ #innovation #techtransfer #LRD

Over the past two years, I had the pleasure to collaborate with fantastic colleagues from Skellefteå kommun and Skellefteå Science City on a project funded by Formas, a Swedish Research Council for Sustainable Development aimed at fostering sustainable and just transitions of the local #mobilitysystem in the municipality 🚌 🚴♀️🚶♀️ In the project, we focused on the role #mobilityhubs can play in switching from the mobility system dominated by individually-owned cars to one that would be much more multi-modal. When exploring the challenge, we deep-dived into the local context and used the concept of Nordic #wintercity to describe its features. Together with Annelie Viksten and Moa Ribjer we analysed what #imaginaries of the future mobility system are dominant among the mobility experts and local actors in Skellefteå 💭 https://lnkd.in/dePKHS5R Further engaging with a variety of perspectives on #mobilityhubs in a participatory workshop, we moved to figuring out what roles they can play and what services and functions provide. Amazing Elpida Stratopoulou and Leonie Kralinger visualised ideas collected in the "Visual Toolkit for Mobility Hubs in Nordic Winter Cities" - do check it out!👇 https://lnkd.in/dzXRH5rC In the Toolkit we aimed to be 'true to the context' and show how such hubs can look in the winter season and when placed in smaller communities. Our ambition was to make the Toolkit useful in a #modular way 🧩 - new functions can be added and taken out from the developed prototypes depending on #needs of a place and local community. We do believe having such visuals can help in #facilitating discussions about future mobility and make them more 'tangible' so we can better align imaginaries we hold individually and develop a #sharedvision to strive towards. Please do reach out if you find the Toolkit useful in your work! 💫
