#ICYMI: Another catch-up item from my summer reading frenzy, the Conference Board's 2024 Innovation Report Card. Highlights pro-competitive policy reform as one of the "pivotal areas of opportunity" to drive greater innovation and investment in Canada. 💡 "Canada has experienced 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐩 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐑&𝐃 over the past 20 years. Neither the Canadian government nor businesses have been able to reverse this trend. This is likely due to multiple, interdependent factors such as 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻; industry composition; lack of investment capital; current mix of government programs; complacency; and risk aversion." 💡 "To create the conditions to turn the corner (...) 5. The latest European Attractiveness Survey by EY is published today and it found that Europe saw a downturn in FDI in 2023, with contrasting fortunes across countries. France tops the table once again, the UK moves up to second and Germany is down to third. The overall picture is somewhat gloomy but it is not all bad news. Foreign businesses are expanding operations in Europe to reshore supply chains, create efficiencies and accelerate innovation. This has created some pockets of strong investment activity, despite the general downward trend. And 72% of business leaders told us they plan to establish or expand operations in Europe over the next year – an increase from 67% in last year’s survey. Signe Ratso, Deputy Director General of EC RTD, starts the WIRE conference reminding that EU. and regions should have more synergies ( called subsidiarity in Brusselian jargon). In the inDemand Health project we tested a lean demand driven co-creation model to support the collaboration between customers and innovative companies. Due to its success in real world testing of the model, It has been uptaken by Info Región de Murcia Regional Development Región and It IS funded with local resources, like ERDF. We at Ticbiomed think this a best practice : explore in Horizon, systemically deploy eg with ERDF funding. Connect and make sustaiable EU investments.
