Unveiling InnoFest jury and speakers – and yes, there is still time to join!   We are happy to announce some of the jury members and speakers at InnoFest on Sept 12.-13.2024 in Oulu, Finland. Still time to enroll yourself as an expert OR apply to the competition with your own idea until 23.6.!     The jury of InnoFest 2024 is nearly finalized! The honorable jury will include serial entrepreneur Markku Känsäkoski from MK Fluidics Ltd and Smart PD solutions, creative technologist Ashley Colley from the University of Lapland, and Business and industry expert Christian Sundell from UC Management. As speakers, we are excited to hear from last year's InnoFest Winner, Hidden Power, about what has happened to their innovation during the year. 🌱 Just wrapped up my first experience at PackExpo in Philadelphia, and what an incredible journey it's been! As a startup venturing into the US market for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm reception and interest people showed towards our PapairWrap, the bubblewrap made of 100% paper. Especially how many people already knew our product. Here are my three key takeaways: 👉 The US market is actively seeking sustainable packaging solutions and is receptive to innovation in this space. Exciting opportunities lie ahead for eco-friendly alternatives like ours. 👉 It was a fantastic opportunity to expand our network in the US. Met some incredible individuals and companies, and I'm excited about the potential collaborations on the horizon. 👉 Learned firsthand that what works in Europe may not necessarily translate to success in American markets. 🌟 KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence is a key partner in the FINEX project, who is leading the development and implementation of the FINEX Experimentation Action Plan, opening up state-of-the-art experimentation spaces across six regions - Estonia, Finland, Cyprus, Lithuania, Latvia, and Bulgaria. These spaces provide opportunities for piloting disruptive Cleantech solutions, enabling innovators to test, upscale and refine their technologies. Visiting Munich not only to drink but also to explore technology with nexxworks and EXPO REAL (Messe München). Just had an exciting time serving as a jury member for the EXPO REAL Impact Awards 2024! I reviewed 12 submissions, but I couldn't help but feel that more focus is needed on initiatives with community or social impact—especially after also missing initiatives on that field at the Brussels Realty event. Many of the submissions were SaaS products solving problems that already have solutions or, frankly, seemed like a solution in search of a problem. One standout for me was Paebbl, which is tackling a major challenge: the use of carbon negative raw materials as we approach our sustainability limits. This is exactly the type of big-picture solution we need. Let's focus on solving the real, large-scale problems—we seem to be putting a lot of effort into the last 20%, while the largest 80% impact - our use of raw materials) still demands our attention. A huge thank you to Dirk Paelinck and the European PropTech Association for organizing the event so efficiently and for shining a light on startups making real impact. 🙌 Backed by leading industry partners and European institutions, the Impact Awards are set to become the benchmark for recognizing meaningful change in the sector.
