It's about maintaining conviction when the world sees only potential, about connecting dots that others can't yet see. The Innovate UK Launchpad programme gathers pace with £16 million funding being offered for 101 new projects. The Innovate UK Launchpad programme supports clusters of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the most innovative businesses to progress their ideas towards commercialisation, contributing to local economic growth. Each Launchpad has been developed in collaboration with local leadership to strengthen innovation in targeted clusters across the UK. Eight Innovate UK Launchpads were announced in October 2023 and today’s announcement marks the first round of investments, providing each cluster with an equal share of £16 million. Building Solutions That Matter: Putting People at the Center of Innovation. As we start this week, I’m reflecting on a core principle that has guided my work in technology and public service: creating solutions that truly serve people. Whether simplifying processes or providing access to essential information, the goal is always the same—putting people at the heart of everything we do. One project that embodies this approach is developing the safeguards digital platform for the Smallholder Commercialization and Agribusiness Development Project (SCADeP). This platform was designed with farmers and agribusinesses in mind, ensuring their needs are met efficiently while safeguarding environmental and social standards. The data generated through the platform helps the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) make informed decisions about specific projects or activities being undertaken in the field. By integrating the voices of those directly impacted, we created a solution that improves processes and strengthens community trust and compliance. The ability to make data-driven decisions has been a game-changer, ensuring that the right actions are taken to benefit those on the ground. I’ve learned that the most successful solutions start with understanding the real needs of the people using them. Listening to feedback, observing challenges, and adapting to unique circumstances are the steps that turn good ideas into excellent outcomes. Each project has taught me that technology is a tool, but its impact is measured by how much it improves lives. It’s the farmer who can access resources quicker, the agribusiness that operates more smoothly, and the everyday citizen who can easily navigate public services. To everyone working on projects that seek to make a difference, I encourage you to keep people at the centre of your innovation. Listen to their stories, understand their needs, and let those insights shape the solutions you build. Here’s to a week of creating real impact and delivering solutions that matter.
