Factory-X lighthouse project at the Hannover Messe Eleven use cases from industrial practice, especially in the application area of factory equipment suppliers and operators, are the focus of our brand new Factory-X research project, which was launched in February and is funded by the BMWK. Visit the Plattform Industrie 4.0 stand (Hall 8, D26) and find out more about this exciting joint project, in which 47 partners are designing and prototyping various business applications with common and/or complementary basic functionalities. The basic condition: Interoperability and openness. The aim is to present sample implementations for various business applications that show that tasks can be optimized in the application case and can serve as the basis for a general industry standard. Factory-X, as a lighthouse project within the Manufacturing-X project family, explicitly addresses mechanical and plant engineering, an industry of great importance to the German economy. It is about a data space for sovereign participation in future-oriented technology for data sharing and collaborative data use. INNOVATION AT THE CORE In a time of significant technological advancements and intense global competition, I am convinced that innovation is core and a crucial competitive advantage. Prioritizing innovation, research and development is the key to future success. As we continually keep our focus on the future, ZEISS spends 15 percent of revenue every year on research and development. All four ZEISS segments are at the forefront of development with their innovations. Besides, ZEISS supports basic research at universities and other research institutions. Being one of the world's leading technology enterprises, our current success is still based on Carl Zeiss's development of the first microscope in 1846. The microscope is the foundation of everything we do, and everything revolves around our core – optics and optoelectronics. We owe Carl Zeiss the credit for being an optical powerhouse today, now also in the field of AI. When it comes to our internal processes, we are also focused on being innovative. We are highly attentive to how we can innovatively develop the company making it possible for our employees to work with modern methods and benefit from all the knowledge gathered by our 45,000 colleagues. Innovation is not just about technology. It’s also about people. I have personally been driven by a deep fascination for ZEISS throughout the years I have worked in the company. This is due not least to the fact that we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible, developing new technologies that are changing the way people see the world. #teamZEISS
