Africa: More PhDs but what's the question? The answer is more PhDs. Yes. But we don't have the question. Likely, the question will point us to more PhDs, framed on mathematics, and imbued with interdisciplinarity. #africa #development #sustainability https://lnkd.in/eQ42FQ4W

Today, we are featuring Dorcas Seshie Afi Mawutor, Physics Student and African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Girls in Mathematical Sciences program alumnus: “My journey hasn’t been without challenges. Being a female in a predominantly male field can be daunting, especially since there aren’t many females pursuing physics. In my class, males make up about 85%. This disparity has been challenging, but it has also motivated me. In the future, I hope to contribute to the field of physics through research and innovation. I want to inspire other young girls, especially those from Africa, to pursue their passions in STEM fields. Curiosity has been my driving force, and I intend to keep it that way.” ➡️ Find the full story at https://lnkd.in/eQa3q9U6. #Academia #Student #University #Mathematics #Physics #ComputerScience #Mentors #Empowerment #Perseverance #WomenInSTEM #HerMathsStory

Three Israeli universities among the top 100 universities in the world 🌍 Three leading Israeli research universities - the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology and the Weizmann Institute of Science - have been included in the top 100 universities in the world according to the Shanghai Ranking 2024. 🪐 The Hebrew University, considered Israel's leading research university, ranked 81st in the world, climbing five places compared to 2023. The Technion dropped four places to 85th, while the Weizmann dropped one place to 69th in the ranking. 📖 Hebrew University President Professor Asher Cohen noted that the presence of three Israeli universities in the top 100 is an exceptional achievement, especially in such a challenging year. He explained the university's rise in the ranking as a result of "groundbreaking research and commitment to excellence." 🖇️ The Academic Ranking of World Universities, compiled annually by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, is considered one of the most accurate. It includes about 2,500 universities worldwide, which are ranked according to several criteria, including the number of faculty and alumni who have received international awards, as well as the volume and quality of their publications in peer-reviewed journals. 📌 In the 2024 ranking, the top ten spots were taken by universities from the United States and the United Kingdom: Harvard University was in first place, followed by Stanford, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Cambridge, the University of California, Berkeley, Oxford, Princeton, the California Institute of Technology, Columbia University and the University of Chicago. 🔗 Three other Israeli universities, such as Tel Aviv University, Bar-Ilan University and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev are in the top 500.

A PhD is a terminal academic degree students typically pursue when they're interested in an academic or research career. A PhD is the highest possible academic degree a student can obtain. PhD stands for “Doctor of Philosophy,” which refers to the immense knowledge a student gains when earning the degree. https://lnkd.in/dVFd9c9K. Who funds PhD students? Universities offer their own funded PhD courses which are termed Studentships. Charities and Trusts support individual PhD students through the award of Scholarships and Bursaries. Companies seek answers to business-critical problems by investing in research and partnering with a relevant University. https://lnkd.in/dTN-tGG7. The point is no one funds or gets scholarships for free for the students to continue their education, The base of research that exists in universities and universities for pursuing their goals will offer students for supporting their financial needs through this program. Research is equal to empty pockets or self-funded research, because when you prefer to do some project on your own instead of working how you can afford it? And if you thought universities would support you in this way you are wrong, They will support you in their mission, As a result, can we say that progress science is under the control of private institutions hands? If you're a student who is interested in investing in your knowledge and progress your progress and your knowledge will be controlled by universities or organizations' goals that invest in you, So can we trust 100 percent on knowledge coming out from universities which funds come from the government or resources we don't have any idea what was the real mission back out there. Do you remember we talked about the wrong policy of some progressive countries? In your opinion how far parents can help their children to invest in their knowledge to write a book or do their projects or... How does this knowledge come from universities is reliable? Is knowledge and science in a safe place for progress?
