Static electricity, also known as "triboelectricity," is created when two materials rub together. This friction generates a static charge, which can have costly and even dangerous consequences in today's technology-driven world. Uncontrolled static electricity can lead to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and various associated problems, including fire hazards and difficulties with powder discharge or flow during bulk solids processing. Additionally, static electricity can attract unwelcome impurities, leading to flaws or failures in the product. This problem is frequently seen in bulk solids blenders, mills, and screeners. When we think of emerging technologies, some may imagine digital systems and robots at work. For Insituform UK, innovation means making traditional processes more efficient and less disruptive. CIPP pipe liners are a prime example of this. A felt tube lined with epoxy resin is inserted into a damaged pipe and then activated with hot water or high-pressure steam. The heat cures the resin, which bonds to the interior wall of the pipe, creating a strong, durable new layer. Once cooled, the liner is trimmed to fit the pipe's length, and the system is reconnected and back to full operation. This entire process is done without the need for excavation or breaking ground. CIPP liners define trenchless technology by eliminating the need for disruptive digging and will become a key part of the rehabilitation of sewer systems across the UK.
