My holibobs are just coming to an end, but not before a sneaky 5km run nomination found it's way to me on my final day in Bali. Of course it's all for a fabulous cause, spear headed by my formidable business partner Lily Jones. Did you know that only 15% of businesses in the UK are owned or run by women? And that a whopping 81% of 11 to 18 year olds can't name a single female entrepreneur 🤯. This campaign is to raise awareness of female led businesses and to raise funds to put 3 young women through the The King's Trust Enterprise Programme to try and tackle those stats from the root. So I've donated my £5, run my 5km (in 30 degree heat sorry to say), and just before I jump on the plane back to freezing blighty, I am nominating 5 brilliant female founders to get involved: Karen Tait - founder of the awesome Residence co-working which I'm looking forward to spending more time at this year. Nicki Coe - co-founder coach, agency co-founder and all round good egg. Hannah Miller - lovely Hannah is founder of Blue Sky Tipis which supplies to the events industry. We're hoping this will ripple across the platform in the coming weeks to raise money for Women Supporting Women through The King's Trust. Why does this matter? 📣 We're hoping to raise awareness for female-led businesses and support some of those we believe deserve the spotlight. ↳ Only 15% of UK businesses are owned by women, and 81% of young people (11–18) can’t name a single female entrepreneur. In 2025, I’m stepping up my commitment: ✨ I will continue supporting 4 organisations pro bono to extend my impact. ✨ Launch the 2025 edition of ADIPWO, recognising and empowering even more trailblazing women. ✨ Explore innovative ways to deepen my engagement with the core causes I support: women empowerment, digital literacy and entrepreneurship. 💡 What will you commit to in 2025? Nine months ago, I had a vision: to create a space where women in the nonprofit sector could come together, share knowledge, and uplift one another. It started as a simple idea—a LinkedIn group where we could connect and support each other through our unique challenges and triumphs. As the months passed, something amazing happened. An extraordinary group of women joined my journey, each bringing their unique experiences and aspirations. Together, we envisioned a brighter future for the sector—one where women are not just surviving but thriving, supported by a community that understands their struggles and celebrates their achievements. Today marks an exciting milestone for the Women's Nonprofit Network as we launch our first fundraiser to directly support and empower women through membership. Echoing Divish Gupta, please consider joining me in celebrating and amplifying Sajhe Sapne and Surabhi Yadav. I first met Surabhi in college, over 10 years ago, and even then, her passion, sense of mission and purpose was evidently clear. We have remained friends over the years, through her time at IIT Delhi, UC Berkeley and beyond. As Divish mentions -- with her background and credentials, Surabhi could have chosen to do almost anything, and be anyone she wanted to be. And what she chose was the one thing true to her authentic self. There are foundations backed by billionaires, major government programs and multiple for-profits seeking to transform India positively, but some of the deepest rooted, hardest problems in this country are solved by individuals at small scales, quietly, thoughtfully, and steadily. Very often, the gap between having dreams and achieving them is simply self-perception and belief, built by the right nudges. I know I have certainly benefited from incredible mentors throughout my life. Beyond that personal level though, women in rural India face layers upon layers of systemic and societal perceptions that act as barriers to achieving those dreams. For women in rural India to have someone like Surabhi by their side, showing the way through her own example, through her daily actions, working with and transforming individuals as well as whole systems -- few role models would be more powerful.
