Celebrating 60 years of Mathematics Today! Mathematics Today (MT), originally named the IMA Bulletin, has been a valued membership benefit since its first issue in March 1965. To celebrate our anniversary, we are making a selection of interesting articles from our archive available online. These articles have been chosen by IMA members and MT readers, who introduce their favourite MT articles and explain why they are important to them. These nine articles are on topics that continue to be relevant to today’s mathematicians. They span 1971 to 2016 and include a broad range of topics, such as numerical analysis, education, animal flight, Stokes phenomenon, Rubik’s cubes, the Enigma machine, Kalman filters and Bayesian statistics in the courtroom. One of the articles, ‘Aerodynamic Aspects of Animal Flight’, is written by the IMA’s first president, Sir James Lighthill (1924–1998), and there are also articles on his work in this issue to celebrate 100 years since his birth. To read the nine articles now available on the IMA website, visit the Mathematics Today and Bulletin Archive. https://lnkd.in/e4GVrR9F #mathematics #mathematician #mathematicstoday

🌟 Excited to share about publishing my first research article. As part of my last semester project in BIT Mesra, I wrote a research thesis titled 'Statistical Analysis Of Successive Over-relaxation method' under the guidance of Dr Soubhik Chakraborty, Department of Mathematics, BIT Mesra which is a numerical approximation technique widely used in mathematical applications. I would like to thank my guide for helping me understand the importance of implementing different probability distributions on a numerical technique which helped me uncover it's mechanisms and how it works. Our research article has been published as a book chapter in the IIP book series titles ,"Futuristic Trends in Contemporary Mathematics and Applications Volume 3 Book 2", page numbers 203-219. #Mathematics #Statistics #NumericalTechnique #ProbabilityDistribution

This paper deeply analyzes the essential properties of fuzzy modules, and reveals the deep structure inside fuzzy modules through the study of alpha cut and quotient fuzzy modules. At the same time, we prove that the product of fuzzy ideal and fuzzy module can produce new essential fuzzy modules under certain conditions, which opens up new ways for the application of fuzzy mathematics and further enriches the fuzzy module theory system. This innovative achievement not only promotes the development of fuzzy mathematics, but also provides a new perspective and ideas for research in related fields. Join us to explore the infinite possibilities of fuzzy module theory and open a new chapter in mathematics and science! 💡The Biggest Problem in Mathematics Is Finally a Step Closer to Being Solved 「 Proving this conjecture would provide mathematicians with nothing less than a kind of “periodic table of numbers.” Just as the basic building blocks of matter (such as quarks, electrons and photons) help us to understand the universe and our world, prime numbers also play an important role, not just in number theory but in almost all areas of mathematics 」 #RiemannHypothesis #Math #Research

The KI team recently wrapped a workshop with Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and as you can see, it was a lot of fun. The workshop gave mathematicians a chance to explore the world of quantum. Even now, the participants are working on innovative ways to bridge the gap between mathematics and quantum. #Knowinnovation #Mathematics #Quantum #Research #Innovation

🌟 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 🌟 As the proud publisher of 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬, led by Roman Matuszewski, we are thrilled to share the journal's recognition by 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝒀𝒖𝒓𝒊 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒚𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒉 in the paper 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒇 𝑩𝒆𝒕𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 (https://lnkd.in/e3J3vqBi). This work, featured in the 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘺, explores a variety of viewpoints on the topic of proofs. In mathematics, these are fundamental, serving as the crucial validation for theorems and propositions. With proofs becoming increasingly complex, leading mathematicians have voiced stronger support for their formal verification. Yuri Matiyasevich highlights the concept of computer verification of proofs, distinguishing 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 as the first, and potentially the only, academic journal where proofs undergo preliminary computer verification prior to publication. 📚 We are honoured to partner with the Formalized Mathematics journal, published by the Uniwersytet w Białymstoku in Poland, a pioneer in the realm of formalized and mechanically checked mathematics. 👉 𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫-𝐢𝐧-𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬𝐳𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐤𝐢: https://lnkd.in/eD-MyQsS #FormalizedMathematics #MathCommunity #MathematicalResearch

I am glad to share that last Fall, I started a PhD in mathematics at Wayne State University. It has been an exciting first two semesters where I got to take topics courses in algebraic K-theory and algebraic invariant theory. My main research interests are in homotopy theory (stable and motivic), algebraic geometry and the interactions between these fields, particularly in algebraic K-theory and topological Hochschild homology (THH). I am also spending time exploring topological data analysis (TDA) and its applications in engineering. If anyone is interested in discussing the above topics, or sharing any suggestions, I would love to connect! #PhD #Mathematics #WayneState #WarriorStrong
