On World AIDS Day 2024, Black Trans Alliance pauses to remember the precious lives we've lost to AIDS within our community. As we honour their memory, we stand firmly at the intersection of racial justice, trans rights, and HIV advocacy. Our community faces unique challenges in accessing healthcare—from discrimination to lack of culturally competent care. Yet we persist, we organise, and we support each other. This year's theme, "Take the rights path: My health, my right!" resonates deeply with our mission. Healthcare isn't a privilege—it's a fundamental right. For Black trans people, accessing HIV prevention, testing, and treatment often means navigating multiple layers of discrimination and systemic barriers. We're working tirelessly to change this reality. Through community support, advocacy, and education, we're building a future where every Black trans person can access the healthcare they deserve without fear or discrimination—a future worthy of those we've lost. Join us in this crucial work. Support Black LGBTQ+ led organisations. Amplify our voices. Challenge discrimination wherever you encounter it. Together, we can create lasting change and ensure no more lives are lost needlessly. #WorldAIDSDay2024 #BlackTransLivesMatter #HealthcareEquity #EndHIVStigma #TakeTheRightsPath 🏳️⚧️🖤🔴

🚨New Research Publication Out Now!🚨 I’m excited to share our latest research published in Qualitative Health Research from Sage focusing on the experiences of Filipino gay, bisexual men, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) living with HIV. Here are some key highlights: ✅ Intersectional Stigma and Power Dynamics: Our study reveals how cultural elements (e.g., religion, CIS heteronormativity), power dynamics, and privilege fuels the intersectional stigma experienced by GBM living with HIV. ✅Transformative Narratives: We found that Filipino GBM living with HIV are not just victims of oppression but also agents of change, empowering and liberating others within their community. They use their lived experience leadership to promote health equity in their communities. ✅Lived Experience Leadership: The research underscores the importance of collective actions and lived experience leadership in addressing inequities and improving policies and interventions that are contextually and culturally appropriate for gay and bisexual men living with HIV. Did you know that 30% of transgender individuals become sexually active before the age of 18? And yet, HIV programs can only provide support after they turn 18. This alarming statistic, along with the fact that 7.5% of transgender women have HIV (IBBS 2014-2015), highlights the urgent need for awareness and action. At Naz Foundation, we strive to empower and support the LGBTQIA+ community, including transgender individuals, through our clinic and helpline. We understand the unique challenges faced by this community, such as higher HIV rates (11.2%) in those who cannot read or write, and 10% prevalence among sex workers and masseurs. It is also disheartening to note that the average age at which transgender people have sexual encounters is only 15 years. This further emphasizes the importance of early intervention and education. Our Naz clinic offers confidential and non-judgmental services for those in need. From free consultation with medical professionals to access to resources and support, we are here for you. If you or someone you know is part of the LGBTQIA+ community and needs medical assistance, please visit the Naz Clinic. To make an appointment, call our Naz Dost Helpline at +91 8800329176 or +91 1140669411/12/13/14, Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. #NazFoundation #LGBTQIA+ #TransgenderAwareness #HIVPrevention #Empowerment #Equality #HealthEquity #healthcare #transgender #communitysupport #HIVawareness #inclusivehealthcare #queerindia #lgbtqindia #lgbtindia #transgenderindia #lgbtq

Despite many women spending nearly half their lives in menopause, it is often overlooked in discussions on sexual and reproductive health, and HIV care. Reflecting on Canada’s theme for International Women’s Day, “Invest in women: Accelerate progress.”, CATIE’s Sugandhi del Canto explores the intersection of menopause and HIV. This International Women’s Day is a call to accelerate progress towards gender equality by amplifying women’s voices and experiences in all aspects and stages of life. https://lnkd.in/g2rq28QG

So honored to chat with CBS Chicago about the recent study from American Cancer Society detailing the health disparities experienced by the LGBTQ community. This first-ever LGBTQ+ report notes that LGBTQ+ people are probably at higher risk for cancer, yet experience multiple barriers to high-quality healthcare access (discrimination, shortfalls in provider knowledge of unique medical needs). Additionally, LGBTQ+ people living with HIV, HPV, and HCV share considerably higher risks of various cancers. Finally, screening for some cancers is low among transgender people. For more information about the report or to get screened, visit cancer.org. https://lnkd.in/gbBA_UqV

Today, we honor World AIDS Day 🌍❤️, a time to raise awareness, show support for those living with HIV, and remember those we’ve lost. Established in 1988, World AIDS Day was the first-ever global health day, serving as a powerful reminder that HIV continues to impact millions of lives worldwide. As we reflect, we’re inspired by this quote: 'Ending the stigma surrounding HIV is the first step toward building a future free of AIDS.' At Identiti Financial, we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and all those affected by HIV/AIDS. Together, we can create a world of acceptance, understanding, and progress. #WorldAIDSDay #EndTheStigma #SupportAndSolidarity #LGBTQHistory"

🌟 World AIDS Day: Honoring Activists, Fighting for Equity 🌟 Today, we commemorate World AIDS Day — a day to honor the lives impacted by HIV/AIDS, celebrate progress, and acknowledge the ongoing fight for justice. At the 2024 ViiV Youth and Community Summit, I shared what it means to dream and achieve the impossible. For me, it’s about uprooting the institutional and structural barriers — racism, classism, and capitalism — that continue to harm marginalized communities. It’s about charting a brighter, more equitable path forward. This fight wouldn’t be where it is today without the leadership and resilience of Black and Brown activists. Here are just two examples of Puerto Rican leaders who inspire us all: ✨ José Enrique Ayoroa Santaliz / A relentless advocate for HIV awareness and LGBTQ+ rights in Puerto Rico, he used his platform to destigmatize HIV and uplift queer voices in the Caribbean. ✨ Ivette González-Alé / A powerhouse in public health advocacy, she has championed equitable healthcare access for people living with HIV, ensuring their voices are heard in policy discussions. Their work reminds us that the fight against HIV/AIDS is intertwined with the fight for equity, justice, and the dismantling of oppressive systems. Let’s keep their legacies alive by committing to action, fostering equity, and dreaming of a world where health and dignity are a right, not a privilege. #WorldAIDSDay #HIVAwareness #EquityForAll #DreamTheImpossible

Across the world, 63 countries criminalise the LGBTQ+ community (Human Dignity Trust). These laws, coupled with increasing anti-rights and anti-gender movements have a knock-on impact on all areas of society, especially healthcare. At ViiV Healthcare – the only global pharmaceutical company 100% committed to ending #HIV - we believe that everyone, no matter where they live, should have the freedom to be their authentic selves. I’m incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made towards achieving our mission - to leave no person living with – or affected by – HIV behind – and key to this is working in collaboration with communities including those who are often marginalised. We know there is always more to do and to accelerate progress we have to unite, to work together and create even stronger, more powerful partnerships that not only drive, but demand transformational change that lasts. That’s why today we’re announcing a commitment of $7.8million to #FundOurFutures – a campaign initiated by Global Philanthropy Project, Funders Concerned About AIDS and Funders for LGBTQ Issues to unlock $150million in new funding to support LGBTQ+ organisations and programmes over the next 3 years. Our funding will go directly to organisations working to counteract anti-rights activities, address HIV and LGBTQ+ stigma and discrimination, advance HIV healthcare services, access and advocacy, and amplify the voice of the community both locally and globally. At ViiV, our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community is unwavering. #WeWontStop challenging inequality until we build a safer, more inclusive world for everyone.
