The 16 Days of Activism campaign shines a spotlight on the growing crisis of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) against women and the abuse of girl children in Kenya. While this period is essential for raising awareness, we must move beyond words and commit to sustained action throughout the year. Let us strive to create a society free from violence, one that values and respects every individual. Together, we can break the cycle of violence and make equality and dignity a reality for all. #16DaysOfActivism

Yesterday, HOK joined the global commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, marking the launch of the #UNiTE campaign (Nov 25–Dec 10) and the beginning of #16DaysofActivism against gender-based violence. This year’s theme, “Every 10 Minutes, a Woman is Killed. #NoExcuse,” underscores the alarming prevalence of violence against women. At HOK, we remain steadfast in addressing gender-based violence within our communities, through impactful initiatives that include awareness campaigns, advocacy for stronger policies, survivor support systems, and fostering safe spaces for women and girls. Violence in any form—whether #physical, #psychological, or #economic—is a violation of human rights, and we are committed to breaking the cycles of harm and empowering survivors to rebuild their lives. As we begin the 16 days of activism, HOK calls on everyone—#individuals, #governments, and #organizations—to accelerate action, hold perpetrators accountable, and champion well-resourced strategies to protect women and girls. Together, we can eliminate violence and build a future of equality, safety, and dignity. #Every10Minutes #NoExcuse #UNiTE #EndGBV #16DaysOfActivism #HOKImpact

November 25 - International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women The United Nations General Assembly officially designated this day on December 17, 1999, under resolution 54/134, as a global symbol to combat violence against women. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of protecting women from all forms of violence and ensuring their rights in a safe and equitable environment. This date was chosen in honor of the Mirabal sisters, political activists brutally murdered in the Dominican Republic in 1960. The day also marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs until December 10 (Human Rights Day), aiming to galvanize international and local efforts to eliminate this phenomenon and build more just and equitable societies. #TogetherAgainstViolence #WomensRights

🌍💜 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence 💜🌍 From November 25 to December 10, we join the global movement to raise awareness and take action against gender-based violence. In Australia alone, over 55 women have tragically lost their lives to domestic violence this year. This staggering statistic reminds us that 16 days of activism is just the beginning of a much-needed dialogue. At Our Lawyers, we believe it’s crucial to listen and engage with our communities. Recently, we attended the Pop In Domestic Violence forum in the Southern Highlands and the say no to DV breakfast in the Wollondilly, where we were reminded that this issue transcends gender—it’s a societal challenge that requires collective action. Now is the time to reflect, engage, and consider what we can do individually to combat this issue. Let’s stand together and make a difference! 💪💜 #16DaysOfActivism #EndGenderBasedViolence #CommunityAction #TogetherWeCan #Noexcuse

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. "The epidemic of violence against women and girls shames humanity. Every day, on average, 140 women and girls are killed by someone in their own family. Around one in three women still experience physical or sexual violence. No country or community is unaffected. And the situation is getting worse. Crises of conflict, climate, and hunger have inflamed inequalities. Horrendous sexual violence is being used as a weapon of war. And women and girls face a torrent of online misogyny. The situation is compounded by a growing backlash against women and girls’ rights. Too often, legal protections are being rolled back, human rights are being trampled, and women’s human rights defenders are being threatened, harassed and killed for speaking out. The United Nations Spotlight Initiative and the UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women initiative call on all of us to join forces to end the scourge of violence against women and girls everywhere. The world must heed this call. We need urgent action for justice and accountability, and support for advocacy. Almost thirty years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action promised to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls – it’s beyond time to deliver". UN Secretary General November 25, 2024 Take action and join Zontians in the walk against violence tonight from King George Square (Brisbane City Hall) at 6pm. The city will be lit in Orange and we ask you to wear orange to show your support. https://lnkd.in/gkx_i-HY #16days #noexcuse #eliminationofviolence #zontabrisbane #zonta_d22 #zontaintl #unwomen
