May is AANHPI Heritage and Mental Health Awareness Month. On this last day, I share with you the health disparity in our community. Couple of points worth mentioning: • AANHPI is 3x less than their white counterparts to seek services • Model Minority Myth persists and is a barrier to seeking help • Lack of representation in studies. • Limited equitable EBP psychotherapy and other treatments • Acknowledging that old coping mechanisms do not work. • Offer services for non native English speakers. Bottom Line: Clinicians and community efforts should focus on exploring ways to address AANHPI mental health and wellness. We have to have a higher suspicion for potential issues. Thriving is so much more fulfilling than just surviving day to day.
