Watched this BBC documentary of Easter Island's mystery with family to draw lessons for my little ones: -Overconsumption and exploitation of natural resources can lead to ecological collapse. -The pursuit of monumental projects (e.g., obsession in competing to build the biggest statues on Easter Island, symbolic of power) can contribute to environmental degradation and disaster. -Easter Island's isolated ecosystem reached its limits, leading to resource scarcity and societal decline. Our planet also has finite resources and carrying capacities. Recognizing these limits is crucial to avoid exploitation of planet resources. -Competition and conflict over dwindling resources exacerbated societal breakdown on Easter Island, leading to hunger and violence. -Contact with Western colonizers brought new diseases to Easter Island, contributing to diseases and epidemic. Easter Island's history serves as a microcosm of broader planetary issues, offering a cautionary tale about the consequences of unsustainable practices and the failure to adapt to environmental limits. We must learn from history and adopt sustainable business practice to prevent the tragic outcomes experienced by the Easter Island civilization and foster a more sustainable and equitable future for mankind. The biblical mechanism of human evolution includes both professional division (i.e., tools invention) & ecological civilization (i.e., environmental & geographic impacts), indicated in Genesis 4-5 & 10, respectively.

This course will engage with some of the underlying questions raised by ecological awareness and the environmental crisis: How do we regard and value the natural world? How do we see the role of the human being in creation and in relation to other creatures? How does this influence the way we live on earth and use its goods? In search of answers, this course will engage with the witness of various facets of the historical Christian tradition, especially that of the Christian East. https://lnkd.in/epnXjE4s

Many scholars have tried to figure out what caused the collapse of the once-thriving civilization, suggesting a number of theories like overpopulation, warfare, drought, or shifting trade routes. However, evidence for these theories has always been inconclusive. #history #news #climatechange

📚 What we're reading: "Why Appalachia Flooded So Severely from Helene’s Remnants" by Meghan Bartels in Scientific American. ➡️ Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gar-dUgj A highlight: "Despite the known risk of these storms reaching Appalachia, scientists don’t know a whole lot about how they behave once they get to mountains. For example, high-elevation terrain often forces storm systems to drop more rain on the mountains’ windward side but scientists aren’t sure whether that phenomenon might play a role in cases like Helene’s Appalachian deluge." #EarthScienceData is critical for understanding our landscapes and making informed decisions. Making those resources open and coherent is also important as communities continue to recover -- including the Explore Asheville, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration NCEI Office, and western NC people who graciously hosted us this summer.

Laws governing Extra-Terrestrial Organisms on Earth 🤫 Yes, You heard it right. What happens when International Space stations discover the existence of extra-terrestrial organisms and what if they want to contact with humans and land on Earth? Fascinating Right?? If the above context happens, we have to look at some major concerns: 1. Whether these organisms friends or enemies? 2. Whether these organisms are to the par of human intelligence, psychology, ethics and communication? Then, what will be the legal implications? Let's have a breathtaking..electrifying look at this context and consideration. 1. UNO might play a key role in maintaining inter-celestial peace and security. 2. Questions would arise on sovereignty and jurisdiction over the territory of earth, space, and resources 3. We might be required to establish diplomatic relations and negotiate treaties with the extra-terrestrial civilians. 4. We might need to establish ethical and scientific guidelines in researching such organisms. 5. We would further investigate whether these life forms are entitled to human rights or fundamental rights. May sound like finding a shark in a spoon of water from an ocean, but we cannot deny that there is no shark in the ocean. Let your ideation explode and explore in the comments.
