Cultivated Meat: A Glimpse Into the Future of Food – What Europe Can Learn From Asia's Innovation For Europe, still far away, but in Hong Kong, the US, and Singapore already a reality: #cultivatedmeat. Why is this relevant for us in the Netherlands and Europe? Because it shows how regulatory innovation and #consumeracceptance can drive the adoption of sustainable food technologies—something we urgently need to address here. As a researcher in food transition, I’m fascinated by how cultivated meat challenges traditional food systems and opens doors to more sustainable ways of eating. ✨ Key Highlights: New Launch in Hong Kong: Australian startup Vow, after success in Singapore, becomes the first to sell cultivated meat in China, starting with Japanese quail (a small bird known for its tender meat and delicate flavour) dishes at The Aubrey (a luxury izakaya bar at the Mandarin Oriental hotel). Creative Dishes: Vow’s products include Forged Parfait (a creamy pâté with quail, garlic, and brandy) and Forged Gras (a foie gras-inspired dish made from cultivated quail meat). Smart Market Strategy: Approval in Singapore helped Vow meet Hong Kong’s food safety standards, showing how aligned regulations can speed up market access for new technologies. China’s Big Plans: Mainland China is investing heavily in alternative proteins, building innovation centers and supporting startups to scale up cultivated meat production. Can Europe learn from Asia’s cultivated meat revolution? It’s a question that could define the future of sustainable food systems. #CultivatedMeat #FoodInnovation #ProteinTransition #Sustainability #FutureOfFood #AlternativeProteins #FoodTech #FoodTransition #SustainableEating #InnovationInFood #CircularFoodSystems

Eliminate synthetic chemical use in agriculture -- opt for delicious organic & regenerative beer! 🔹 In the ‘90s, cotton pesticide use peaked at nearly 86 million pounds of chemicals applied to crops across the US. Extensive and intensive use of synthetic fertilizers, soil additives, defoliants and other substances wreak havoc on soil, water, air and many living things. In 1996, Patagonia committed to exclusively use 100% organic virgin cotton and it hasn't looked back. 🔹 Synthetic fertilizers -- including some used on barley and hops -- still account for 11% of agricultural emissions. It can't continue this way! In 2024, Patagonia Provisions got into beer for the same reason we got into food/organic cotton: the US system is dominated by industrial ag, which depletes soil, threatens our waterways, and contributes to the climate crisis. Hope you'll give our two Certified Organic brews a try -- find the Lager and Non-Alcoholic Golden near you:

Carlsberg Group is poised to release its special edition beer, brewed with 100% #regeneratively grown barley in 2025. You need not be a beer drinker to understand the significance of this story. Longstanding brands like Carlsberg stand on tradition, taking immense pride in honoring their methods to assure reliable, consistent taste over not just years, but decades. Carlsberg is in the process of transitioning to 100% regenerative grown barley. They’ve seen the deterioration of soil and crop quality over time like all the big brands. And, just like the others, they started small, in order to convince themselves of the opportunity, and are quickly working with their growers to convert them to regenerative farming. It’s a choice between adding more and more costly synthetic chemicals or moving with growing consumer demand for cleaner food. It becomes an obvious business decision. Even the goliaths like Cargill are making significant progress. This week they announced surpassing 1 million regenerative acres on their way to 10 million acres by 2030. There’s much work to be done to build supply chains for clean foods to reach your tables. It speaks to how broken the food industry has become but there are many positive signs that real change is underway. Continue keeping an eye out for cleaner food options. It’s likely to be the most important change in food during our lifetime. https://lnkd.in/eb4jVMgK

In 2022 Bordeaux Wine Council CIVB (Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Bordeaux) announced 75% of the Bordeaux vineyard practice some form of certified environmental approach. There are three HVE (High Environmental Value) levels of sustainable certification. They require: maintaining of biodiversity, adapting the use of phytosanitary products, the storage and reasoning of fertilizers, optimization of water intake in other words reasoning of constraints, reduction without prohibiting the use of chemicals. . HVE Level 3 can pass to organic certification if vineyard would not be in contact with the synthetic products (phytosanitary chemical products, chemical fertilizers, chemical weed killers etc) during the last 3 years of production. In organic farming the use of synthetic organic molecules in the crop itinerary is totally excluded and replaced by copper sulfur or products of plant origin. French and European organic farming labels are common today. We find them both juxtaposed on the same logo composed of the mention "AB" and the Eurofeuille, organic brand in Europe. Always in the spirit of natural equilibrium some vine growers decide to go further by adopting the principles of biodynamic viticulture. The main objective is to rehabilitate, energize and intensify organic life of the environment where the vine lives. « Demeter » and “Biodyvin” are labels of biodynamical agriculture. “Demeter” is internationally recognized label and “Biodyvin” is European label. The principle is that the wine produced from biodynamical viticulture, is produced from the grapes grown following the rhythm of the seasons and lunar calendar. The soil and the vine are treated by the way close to homeopathy from the plants, with fertilization system and natural stimulation. With 5’424 vineyards covering about 102’000 hectares, Bordeaux has the highest number of sustainable growers, the highest area 20 000 ha of certified organic vines in France and the highest number of Demeter biodynamic labels. More and more estates make a transition to become organic or biodynamic. Conventional estates are in minority, therefore they will lose both their market and commercial profit. In my opinion very soon the principal intermediaries between consumer and producer supermarkets and deep discounters will be obliged to adapt and to exclude conventional product from the sale because environmental component gives more added value to the product.
